KimJohansen (5208), Copenhagen V, Denmark Oct 3, 2008 Cloudy dark amber with medium beige head. Sweet aroma with roasted malt, caramel and breadish notes. Flavour likewise with a sweet roasted finish.
jsquire (1943), St. Marys, Ohio, USA Dec 21, 2008 Murky reddish brwon color with a foamy beige head. Big chocolate nose with some roasted grain and burnt toast notes. Flavors of chocolate, plums, dark toast, with a long finish of almost burnt coffee. Very nice porter. I would drink more of this if it was available. Thanks to cgarvieuk for the one I got. beerbill (1455), Laurel, New York, USA Dec 11, 2008 500 ml bottle courtesy of a trade with cgarvieuk. Pours a dark brown that allows light to pass with a thin off-white head that completely disappeared after the first sip and left no lace. Very pleasant aroma of malt with chocolate, mild smoke, and some earthy peat notes as well. The flavor is malty as well, but there is much more smoke in the flavor than is present in the aroma. In addition, there is some very mild chcolate and peat. Dry, almost chalky, at the finish. An interesting and enjoyable porter. fonefan (6078), Ulfborg, Denmark Nov 18, 2008 Bottle 50cl. @ TFODRBSG 2008, Ulfborg, Denmark
Clear medium to dark brown color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, smoke - peat, burnt and coffee notes. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to light heavy bitter with a average to long duration. Bitterness is peat bitter. Body is medium, texture is watery to oily, carbonation is soft. (230808) yngwie (3893), Kristiansand, Norway Oct 27, 2008 Bottle, thx to fonefan. A clear, copper-colored beer with lots of floaties, and a beige head. Dusty, charcoal-like, burnt aroma with a bonfire-like sourness. Medium-bodied and dry in the mouth, with flavors of bonfire, burnt malt and coffee. Some coffee-like bitterness. It’s fun that they are re-creating old reciepes, but I didn’t care too much for the resulting beer. Too charcoal-ish. (080823) Fin (2568), Merton, Oxfordshire, England Oct 26, 2008 Bottle in a mixed case posted out from the brewery Oct 08, consumed 25-10-08 This beer pours more dark brown than amber with large off white head. Aroma is very malty but both Loz and I picked up a distinct but very nice smokiness to both the aroma and flavour of this beer, in fact it was a little like smoked or burnt coffee. Smooth chocolate and pleasant roastiness complete the picture, its another great beer from Old Chimneys.
