Rich inky malts - the finest tamari. Has a fresh juiciness. Very few impys have that. Unique character, lots of silk dark malts and that vibrant finish is brilliant. daknole (3025), Scottsdale, Arizona, USA

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 23, 2009 (bottle shared by Stine, thanks Eben!) Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma is a unique mix of berries, chocolate, hints of port, that is coupled with vanilla, charcoal, and a hint of booze as well. The taste is strong of chocolate, roasted malt that is bordering on being harsh with hints of green pepper. There is also a nice vinous quality here that is mixed with some vanilla. The beer finishes lightly smoky and lingers well after drinking. Smooth and silky mouthfeel. This is infinitely better than the original.
