| 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 3, 2007 Good sized brown head of dense bubbles. Very rich and creamy. Reduces slowly to a thin foam and reforms nicely upon swirling. Good carbonation for a stout. Very dark brown in color. Somewhat thin body. Dark chocolate and thin roasted malts. Little bit of gritty carbon also. Finish has a sharp bitterness which was not expected. Not a very good stout. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Dec 6, 2005 750ml bottle from my Secret Santa - Thanks Santa! - Pours black with a beautiful mocha head that stays well and laces in weblike patterns down the glass. Aroma is of coffee, and some smoke, along with roasted malts and a touch of coffee. Flavor is roasty. Some smoky earthy notes come through the coffee flavor. A touch of chocolate emerges as well. Finishes somewhat on the dry side. Palate is medium bodied and a smooth drinker. A little on the watery side though. A touch of the hops can be found on the backside. Very drinkable. I think this might be a shade underrated.. alobar (1026), Harleysville, Pennsylvania, USA
