Commercial Description:
Our flagship brew, "Ten Penny Ale" is available in more and more restaurants, pubs and package stores in Central Connecticut, and the momentum is growing! "Ten Penny" is a light Scottish style ale, brewed with a secret recipe developed by Brewmaster Ray Ballard. We can't give you the recipe, but we can tell you that the finest fresh barley malts have been combined with a hint of hops from the Pacific northwest to produce a unique and universally drinkable ale.

On tap at Crew. Pours a clear orange amber with a medium white head. Light caramel, plum and prune on the nose. Slightly oxidized. Malty. Little bit boozy, which is odd given the ABV on this one. Finishes up with a little bit more warming alcohol, and some graininess.

Cask (handpump) at NERAX North, Haverhill MA, 7 November 2009. Amber colour. A diacetyl bomb. Full stop. Fail. Maybe slightly better on the palate. Still lots of creamy toffee and butterscotch. Soft mouthfeel. Clearly something not quite right with this one. Marked for re-rate when the opportunity arises.

On tap at Crew, Poughkeepsie, while passing through town. Nice looking pour, dusky amber with a moderate head and fairly crisp carbonation that suits the soft fruit profile of this fine Scottish. Understated malts and soft smoke in the aroma. Exceptionally clean tasting brew, which I imagine is due to the artisanal waters the brewer uses. Very nice, and a refreshing variation on an often muddled style. The fairly light palate - while enjoyable on one level - might detract just a bit from the character of the beer. But there’s an interesting bloom of chocolate malts towards the finish. Unexpected and nice.

Draft at the local tonite with a lite dinner. Rocky white head sits on the darker orange body. Settles fast. Nose is llite malt and some whispy wet leaves. Body is medium minus and hints of tea with some wierd hop addition. Drinklable and unobtrusive to the palate, but does not truly stand out from the crowd.

BCTC. Reddish brown with lasting head. Mild spicy caramel aroma. Spicy caramel with rich but not syrupy fruit. Soft smooth palate. Very good.

[2372-20090801] Sample. Wood-fired steak aroma hints at cardboard. Hazy, dark brown body with a quick bubbly white head. Cigarette base flavour has grainy malt throughout. Medium body. We were wondering if an ashtray fell in the tank. Seriously.

2009-08-01. Dark amber body with a modest tan head. Mild aroma, touch woody, mild malt. (6+) Flavour of dry malt and weird earthy tobacco like character. Average palate. Not a fan. On tap? at BCTC 2009
