Commercial Description:
This is our American Wheat Beer. A marriage of wheat and barley malts provides a unique taste for both the wheat beer and pale ale lover alike. Our Brown Mountain Light has a slight malty sweetness followed by the crisp, clean, refreshing taste only a wheat beer can provide.

On tap at Union Jack’s. Very pale yellow with a thin white head. Light malt and steely aroma, with a hint of what can only be described as those store brand cheese puffs. Is that the wheat coming through in a weird way on this light beer? Because the taste is much the same, bland, watery, lightly sweet with that same aftertaste of cheese puffs.

Had as part of a sampler. Thin hazy very pale yellow. No head to speak of. Very slight wheat malt character. Hops undetectable in aroma or flavor. Very weak. Not flawed, just weak.

Draught at the brew-pub in Hickory. Pale golden, clear, medium white head. Aroma is light malt, light everything really. Flavor is light, maybe a faint bit of caramel and grain. Not bad for a light, but it is truly not a wheat.

on tap-pours a diminishing white head and straw color. Aroma is barely noticeable grain. Taste is barely noticeable grain, light hops bite. Seltzer with hops waived over it. OK effervescence.

Draught during my NC brew tour. Sometimes I wonder why I do this to myself. The sampler comes with four beers and this is one of the ones I haven’t rated yet. So, here I am. At least this won’t affect my palate. Pours very light urine color with a white head. The aroma is of corn husks, apparent DMS. The papery finish is the most assertive note. A far off floral something might be there. Light indeed, how is this a wheat beer? I guess it technically may contain wheat products or have been processed in a facility which handles wheat products.

The bartender places the piss yellow concoction in front of you, and the smell of damp cardboard wafts toward your nostrils. You lift the glass and take a sip. Water is the dominant flavor, with maybe just a bit of corn and more hops. Hoppy water ain’t beer guys!

From notes 2/22/05: Per the brewpub description: a delicate marriage of wheat and barley malts provide a refreshing surprise. Pours a pale and dilute gold with a thin white head. Loose sloppy lacing. Very mild aromas, virtually nil. Disappointing. Flavors are mild as well, although with more character than the scents. The wheat nature doesn’t really produce any concrete offering to its "marriage" with the barley malt. Smoothness is barely detected. A slight spicy zing from German hops give the occasional rustle to the palate. Thin mouthfeel. Mindless and boring. Your proverbial "lawnmower beer" here.
