mgumby10 (1844), Jupiter, Florida, USA Sep 24, 2007 Pours a medium brown color with a thick, light brown head. Smells of mild roast and chocolate notes. Some hops were present as well. Didnt care for the taste too much actually. Very watery and thin in my opinion. It had some of those roasty malt characters to it, but had a distinct metallic taste that just ruined it for me. Quite disappointing. NachlamSie (1630), Tennessee, USA Apr 18, 2007 Draught at the UJ’s. We’ve got a dark, muddy ruby beer with a tall tan head. It’s a pulchritudinous enough ale. Nose is nicely roasty with a little bit of spicy hops, caramel, light corn husks. I gotta say I was slightly let down by the flavor as it’s a bit bland for the style. It’s a really mellow porter. Chocolate is present but barely noticeable. Rather than having a strong coffee presence, this is nuttier with flavors of almonds and a creamy finish. This makes a nice, lighter bodied session ale, but it isn’t anything exciting or notably complex. 19641948 (492), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Sep 16, 2006 From notes 2/22/05:
Pours a deep brown with plenty of ruby highlights at the bottom of the glass and also up the sides. A milky yet airy light tan head. Loose wet sheets of foam cling to the pint glass. Mild aromas. I kept inhaling deeply to get more of that chocolate scent, but my pints were tame in the nose. Flavors of roasted malts, some baking chocolate, some instant coffee. A drying bitterness on the tongue in the aftertaste. Just enough hops to give it a finish. Thin in the feel. Drinkable.
Bigsilky (322), Charleston, USA Jan 12, 2006 Dark brown porter. Very English. Nice roasted is underscored by a earthy dark chocolate nibby flavour. Very drinkable, not over carbonated either. I agree with Ross, let this guy warm up a little and and you have a fine pint. Balance is definantly here and the hops are quiet as the malt sings. tronraner (1906), Maryville, Tennessee, USA Sep 25, 2005 Draught. Pours dark mahogany with a thin white head (which laces rather well). The aroma is faint and chocolatey. The flavor has a bit of sweet chocolate at first, then goes toward almonds in the finish. Maltiness is even throughout. It isn’t quite as robust as I would like, but is still decent. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Jun 27, 2005 on tap several months ago. pours out dark brow color with a tan head. served in a iced down glass. tasteless when it was 35 degrees. let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then it was quite drinkable. heavy chocolate flavor. fairly light tasting beer for a porter. still a good brew, something id recommend. chronictonic (399), Wyndmoor, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 17, 2005 No aroma. Mild flavor. The big redeaming factor for me is that the chocolate was used for strictly bittering and not a "fake" chocolate flavor. Very good if you’re looking for a mild or session porter. beerandrugby (210), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 4, 2005 Draft. Not at all a bad porter...nice roasted malt you would come to expect from the category...a little thin, also a nice slight chocolate hint and a dry finish.
