| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 7, 2007 Chocolate, caramel, and raisin bouquet, of decent strength. Mahogany color, thin tan head, nice lacing. Dry charred oak taste with a short sour kiss at midpalate. Lemon grass and coffee taste lingers for a good while, perhaps too long. It doesn’t warm particularly well. Trooper11 (467), Suffolk, Virginia, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | May 17, 2007 Nice brown color, large foamy light brown head. Sweet chocolate malt aroma with notes of caramel. Pleasant full bodied bitter chocolate flavor a bit nutty dry finish. Don’t know why this is rated at 55 percentile. I could drink this every day. Nice warmth. Braudog (3767), Dayton, Ohio, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jun 6, 2007 Bomber -- The big rocky head clings to the glass as it reluctantly gives ground to the deep rosy brown stillness below. The aroma is rich, almost chocolatey and inviting. The nuttiness in the flavor is the first impression, followed by a bit of dark chocolate. An easy bitterness follows. Nice quaffable brown ale. Quite well done. (#2962, 6/6/2007) JCB (1768), Durham, North Carolina, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 25, 2008 Underrated beer, imho. A very dark brown pour with a sizable cappuccino colored head. Strong nutty aroma with some dark chocolate malts underneath. Upon tasting, though, my first thought was "black IPA." Not like Stone XI or anything, but sniffing the same territory. Strong roasted flavors emerge to compliment the hop bite, balanced by sharp, bitter nuts. Really interesting and unexpected. I’ll definitely look to score more of this next time I’m in Richmond. vyvvy (2044), Hazelwood, Missouri, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 27, 2008 Pours dark brown with a tan head. The aroma has sweet maltiness, lots of toastiness and some nutty traits. Medium / thick body that is smooth with a bit of semi-sharp carbonation. The flavor starts with very toasted malt that almost comes across as roasted, coffee bitterness and lots of dark nuttiness. A nice example of a brown ale. stefanje (943), (Santee) San Diego, California, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 30, 2008 650 ml bottle from dkachur. Pours a dark brown color with red highlights and a big off-white head that displayed good lacing. The aroma murky with roasted malts and chocolate. The flavor was rich with roasted malts, dirt, biter-sweet nuts and a bit of mocha. The mouthfeel is full and creamy. The finish is medium in duration with a slight biter astringency.Overall: One of the better brown ales that I can remember. Thanks Dan. CaptainCougar (5493), Rockville, Maryland, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 24, 2008 Pours a transparent dark copper mahogany with well-lacing light tan head. Aroma of lightly sweet toasty malts and nutty complexity along with a touch of English hops. Body starts with about average fullness and good sweet dark caramel and nutty character before a semi-dry nicely balanced finish. A good brown ale.
