It’s quite obvious here that Saratoga is making a run at competing with Yuengling, and they’ve failed at even that mean task. A marzen? Come on. This stuff was drinkable, at best. At worst, it had a stale graininess, husky, and with a cidery note that just did not belong. Nah. JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Aroma is very nice, pale malt, fresh sweet aroma. Herbal and spicy hop aroma. Flavour is also very fresh and tasty showing great balance of spicy noble hops. A bit of apple. Malts are lightly caramelly. Terrific balance. A tasty pint. jcwattsrugger (5443), Florida and, New Jersey, USA

Good malt/hop balance, but no flavours particularly outstanding. Pleasantly surprised - last I tried this, it was in a bottle and terrible. They changed it, or what I had was ancient. | 2.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jun 13, 2006 Bottle. Slightly metallic, sweet grainy aroma with caramel notes. Some roastiness is present. Pleasant aroma. Nice transparent amber color with a frothy off-white head and a fair amount of lacing present. Honey-sweet start with some graininess and cereal-like malts in the middle. Persistent, almost cloying sweetness throughout. Normally, I enjoy sweet beers, but this one is an exception and doesn’t overly work with this beer. mephisto (1144), Taiwan

Malty-sweet, caramel flavor up front with a nice hop kick to follow. Medium to full-bodied with lively carbonation. Finishes malty, but crisp. Quality brew. Pretty darn good Autumn lager! | 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 28, 2006 Bottle courtesy of shadey: Pours a clear copper amber with a large, frothy and lightly-lacing off-white head. Sweet toasty German caramel malty aroma is balanced with some faint noble hops and is fairly true to style. Body starts with a nice sweetness, then a strange seemingly full, yet airy palate before a bitingly bitter and lingering earthy finish. The name definitely caught me off-gaurd, but it’s a decent Oktoberfest bier.
