Commercial Description:
We invite you to experience our Amber Ale, a beer as beautiful to look at as it is to drink. Our recipe blends our own pale malt base with three specialty malts and the freshest "American" noble hobs. The resulting deep, rich color of Olde Towne Amber Ale means great flavor, leaning toward the malty side with just a hint of hops in the bouquet. Olde Towne Amber Ale is a feast for the eyes, nose and mouth. Tasting is understanding.

Great beer....when you get it fresh! Some times you’ll get a skanky sixer but if you can find it on tap its realy good. Don’t be a little bitch and put a damn lime or orange in it either.

After reading these reviews, its hard to imagine you are drnking the same beer. This is a non-pasturized product and I too got a sour 6 pack last year. This is my favorite Olde Towne Beer...been drinking it since the brewery opened. The recipe moved around a bit at first, but settled in last spring. Nice clear amber/brown color, malty, a little hops, overall a very smooth, easy to drink beer, with little to no aftertaste. You guys need to try this one again...fresh...not after planes, trains and automobiles.

not bad at all.. Huntsville is an up and coming city with an up and coming brewery.. they offer draft versio9ns of these at a local joint called Sazios.. a great watering hole.. especially after a hot summer day in North Alabama.

My first weekend here in Alabama I tried this and to be honest, I didn’t like it that much. I’ve since tried it again recently and found it to be a million times better. Muchly improved. Good maltiness. I agree with CMT, try this again.

Rerate 3/22/05: The esters are gone and now I see more of the malt. Slight sweetness, tad bit of roast and a bit of chocolate. Pretty drinkable beer now that the earlier QC issues seem to have been resolved.

1/6/05: The copper body has the same slight haze from yeast sediment that the Pale Ale did, but lacks the sizeable head with decent lasting power of the Pale. The aroma is fairly malty with tea-like notes and toffee. It also has a similar bubblegum ester to the odd Pale Ale, but not to the same level. It’s an almost normal sidenote here. The body is a tad thin and unsatisfying, though.

Unfortunately, I concur with Der Biermeister. Olde Towne’s amber looked far better than it tasted. Similar in color to your garden variety amber with a thin taste and palate. Small head with HUGE bubbles, but this could’ve been caused by my delay in actually getting the beer. I was not overly fond of it. However, this was the brewery’s opening party and they were serving the beers in plastic cups to a crowd of over 300 people. In speaking this week to Olde Towne’s brewmaster, Don Alan Hankins, I learned that he still plans on tweaking the beers quite a bit and that the rush to make the opening resulted in beers he wasn’t quite satisfied with. I hope to attend another tasting soon and re-rate Olde Towne’s beers with a much more favorable result, as I’ve had Don Alan’s brews in the past at the now defunct Magic City Brewery and know he is capable of some really great work. ***********As I noted with the Olde Towne Extra Pale, I visited the brewery at the invitation of the brewmaster last night to resample the beers. A vast improvement all around. Don Alan has worked out the kinks and has three tasty (and now mature) beers at Olde Towne. The amber is much better, with a taste that backs up its looks: pleasant, lightly roasted malt flavor with hints of smoke. A very smooth beer. Still a bit thin on the palate for my taste, but considering its intended audience, it’s forgiveable. The amber should do very well.

Not much head to this pretty amber brew. Tastes of malts and caramel. Pretty average for an amber brew. Not much to talk about here.

12oz bottle. Deep dark amber color with a rich malt aroma. It carries a nice sweet taste of the malt with a carmel and little hint grain finishing it. For some reason I just really like this one.
