Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Nov 1, 2009 Sampled from 64-oz growler from the Alabama Group during Darkness Day 2009 in Brooklyn Center, MN. Pours a dark copper amber colored brew with a fast dissolving off-white head. Aroma of caramel malt, some citrus zest and a hint of pine. Taste is medium bodied, with flavors of sweet apricots, caramel malt and a touch of citrus zest. Finish is slightly sweet with a grainy caramel malt aftertaste and a hint of bitterness. A tad light on the hop profile but it still drank pretty good.
Butters (1622), Virginia, USA Sep 5, 2009 Sampled from the growler at the Noogfest High 5. Thanks unclejedi! No thanks beerhawk ;-P Pours a dark amber with some khaki head. Nose is very sweet, which is in start contrast with the overly bitter finish. Very hot. Not a bad first attempt at a high alc, but still a good bit of room for improvement. decaturstevo (1971), decatur, Tennessee, USA Aug 7, 2009 A medium orange/brown pour with a cramy white head and lace. Medium piney hops with a nice caramel malt kicker. Sweet caramel malt flavor with a nice balance ever green bittering. Medium full bodied beer that is very nice. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jul 25, 2009 draft at brewery
pours copper, beige head.
aroma hoppy tough not overly hoppy as most DIPA, sweet bubblegum notes.
taste, too malty for the style, bordering a young barley wine.
some hops, fruits, spices adn with age this would totally lose most of the hop profile of a DIPA.
A good try that could be perfected. Tmoney99 (4652), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Jul 18, 2009 Growler sample at Noogfest High 5.
Poured a clear dark copper color with an average frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate earthy hop aroma. Medium body with a slick texture and soft carbonation. Medium to heavy bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration.
My expectations where met with a new high gravity beer. nqualls (1429), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Jul 14, 2009 Source:Growler at a tasting in Nashville.
Glass:Taster.
Appearance:Hazy amber pour with a one finger off white head.
Aroma:Pine and floral hops. Nothing in the way of malt.
Flavor:Caramel malt with a pine sol, astringent finish.
Palate:Medium body with solid carbonation.
Overall:Excellent first stab. Needs some work. The aroma was very muted, and the flavor was a bit harsh.
BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jul 12, 2009 Draft at the Nook and from growler at Noogfest High 5. Red brown in the glass with a creamy off-white that had some lasting a light lace. Nice pine aroma with a backing of malts. The flavor found pine and grapefruit with a light malt undertone. Medium body and medium bitterness in the aftertaste that hangs of for a while. Hopefully this is a good sign of more nice things to start coming out of Alabama. bconley (351), Fern Park, Florida, USA Jul 9, 2009 On Tap at mellow Mushroom in Huntsville. Dark reddish color. Very citrusy and evergreen smell. Nice hoppy bite mixed caramel malty taste. Really cool. First Alabama rate!!!
