Pours a dark ruby red color with a slight orange tint and a huge frothy white head that settles into a lacing that lasts throughout. The aroma is all about floral and citrus hops with very subtle malt presence. Intensely bitter up front with a huge chunky citrus mouthful. Nice malt backbone, balancing out the immense hop flavor with a bitter dry finish with a nice touch of alcohol warmth. alagnak (293), Littleton, Colorado, USA Jul 25, 2009 Really unique nose heavy on fruit (melon, blueberry) and herbs. Pronounced soapiness and the hops lurking ominously in the back. Flavor is an outright assualt of resiny, metallic hops. Heavy roof-of-the-mouth sweetness, with the slamming bitterness and spruce needles to finish. It’s an agressive beer even for an agressive style. Wishing someone could split this bomber, as I’m thinking my judgment will soon be impaired. thewombat (112), Brooklyn, New York, USA Jun 27, 2009 Aroma is sharp, spicy and bitter hops. Pours a dull hazy copper color. Flavor is mellow. Creamy and sweet with a full mouthfeel. Bitter with hops at the finish but not as bitter as expected. Probably sweetened with age. kkearn (994), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 16, 2009 Bottle. Amber pour, with a little haze, capped with a big off-white head. Aroma of caramel, tootsie roll, bread, and a hefty dose of piney hops. Body is much thinner than expected. Caramel hits the palate first, with herbs, menthol and pine soon taking over. Slightly metallic hops cling to the palate, but its still more sweet than bitter. This beer is decent enough, it just doesn’t do much for me. Nnudd (52), Helsinge, Denmark Jun 5, 2009 Bottle @ home. Only 3 bottels left in the celler now. The pour is clear, deep copper, with 1/2-fingers of off-white head. Aroma of fruit, some floral hops, solid caramel malt and black pepper. The taste has caramel malt, some candi sugar, hops, hops and fruit. the alcohol is wery well hiding behind the hops. The palate is creamy, rich, warming and very well balanced between the malt, fruit, and hops. Wow the 100 EBU’s feels and tastes more like 150-200. Just my kind’ a beer. EHSRanders (1121), Randers C, Denmark May 20, 2009 Bottle. Hazy Amber/orange colour with medium creamy white mostly lasting head. Heavy hoppy aroma. Fruity bitter flavor. Creamy palate. sigma23 (217), , Maine, USA May 18, 2009 pours a rich amber with a full head. aroma is fruity, citrus, pine. drinks smooth with a nice sweetness with some citrus coming through and has a decent hop bitter bite on the finish. really well balanced but sweeter then most IIPA glennmastrange (805), hobe sound, Florida, USA May 16, 2009 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cookie and caramel, orange and flowers for the hops, light dough for the yeast, with a hint of cherry in the background. Head is thin, bubbly, off-white, with fair lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy light orange/tan. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then the long finish is lightly sweet and acidic and moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy, has a carbonation between soft and lively, and finishes lightly dry and astringent. Sweeter than most DIPAs that I’ve had, but fairly well round and nicely textured.
