Commercial Description:
This is the second in a range of Ølfabrikken special ales.
Starting with the rich and slightly sweet malt profile of a Belgian triple we have added a hop charge every five minutes for full duration of the boil - each hop charge 100 grams larger than the previous one. The result is an immensely bitter ale - a 100 IBU's of course.
Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers.

From a 22oz Bottle. Purchased from Liquid Solutions, 1/8/08. Pours a hazy, caramel amber color with a finger of dissipating, splotchy off-white head. Loads of caramel malt in the nose, accompanied by candied orange and planty pine hop notes. Among the hops, a light pepper danced with some faint higher alcohols, smooth, but present. Medium full bodied, softly carbonated mouthfeel with a heavy, plodding texture. Sweet caramel and toffee malt sugars coat the palate at first, along with some sticky honey. The hops come out mid-palate, and build in intensity into the finish, bringing out some pine and grapefruit flavors. The bitterness isn’t successfully able to overcome the malt sugars, leaving a planty, scratchy hop sensation lingering in the final smack with some brown sugar and honey. Overall, I find the malts are too heavy and cloying to allow the hops to be adequately highlighted in this beer.

Pours orange-copper with a finger of fluffy off-white head. Aroma of citrus, caramel, yeast, slight nuttiness . Flavor is sweet and slightly bready-nutty with a bit of citrus hoppiness coming through at the end. Not bitter enough to be considered a great 2IPA but interesting nonetheless.

[1024-20080103] 1pt6.3floz (w/ jerc). Hoppy citrus orange zest and scrambled eggs with a floral background aroma. Hazy, amber orange body with a medium-lasting foamy off-white head. Super dusty grains flavour is musty toasted yeast bitterness and citrus zesty hops throughout. Medium body REALLY makes me want to sneeze. I have never had a beer that makes me feel this way.

Hazy, amber body with a creamy, medium-sized, beige head, some lace. The nose is sweet and floral with pine, honey and citrus. Sickeningly sweet flavor with toffee, tea, cotton candy and fruit punch. Medium body is very soft with light carbonation. Blah.

Nice big grapefruit hop aroma, just a touch of caramel lurking behind it to balance it. A dark reddish-amber, with a small fluffy white head. The taste is far sweeter then I was expecting. Touches of apple, cherry, and oak. Long finish, alcohol well hidden. Not a bad one, but I do think this is the first non-American IIPA I’ve had.

Bottle (660ml). Pours a bubbly, slightly cloudy orange-amber with an average size somewhat-lasting foamy off-white head. Lovely aroma of big, juicy, resiny hops nicely backed by caramel malt along with some fruit -- simple but oh so pleasant. Oh wow, that flavour is simply delicious! Nice & fresh resiny hop flavour, lots of malt there to balance it out, a bit of alcohol (but for the most part very well hidden), some fruit and a long bitter finish. Medium to full bodied. A fantastic DIPA! Edit: Flavour dropped by a point, as it warms it gets a little boozier and sweeter.

Bottle, 50cl. Pours a cloudy orange beer, with a creamy off-white head. Aroma is all hops and fruity. Flavor follows right after with explosions of hops. Mouthfeel is great and hoppy. Overall a great IPA.
