Cloudy amber with a sparse thi white head leaving behind islands of foam. Robust Cascade aroma with light white pepper and malts below. Sticky, thick palate with subdued carbonation. A lot of earthy hops on the taste moving all the way to the finish, with some peppery notes. Would love to try fresh.

.66 cl. bottle from CelticBrew - thanks for this one, Jim!!! Big, off white, durable head that leaves a thick, sticky lace over a hazy amber body. Wonderful fresh hoppy aroma of spruce, citrus, and peppery spice with background notes of toffee and fruit. Medium to full body, light carbonation, and a resinous mouthfeel. Distinctly malty on the front end, with the bitterness building quickly and then continuing into a very long and bitter finish. A worthy entrant in this decidedly American category.

Bottled. A hazy amber beer with a medium sized and creamy beige head. Powerful aroma of fruits (mainly citric fruits), flowers and resin. Hop dominated and quite pleasant. Juicy, syrupy mouthfeel, hops prevail also in the flavor, but this beer is not badly balanced. Sweetish, sugary (maybe too much), with many hop flavors: grapefruit, flowers and others. Some caramel malt too. Medium to full body, average carbonation, dry and persistent finish with extreme bitterness that lingers on your tongue. Overall a very well amde beer, but maybe too sweet, so I surely prefer their Rug IPA.

1/14/2008: Ølfabrikken 100 Gram India Pale Ale has a nice honey color and is hazy with a creamy and frothy off-white head. There is a lot of sweet, candied orange and citrus (grapefruit) peel in the aroma. My wife thinks it smells awesome (and she doesn’t even like IPA which is why she likes the smell better than the taste!). The flavor is intensely sweet and malty with tons of toffee followed by a smooth, moderate citrus (mostly grapefruit and peel) hoppiness and bitterness. There is some salty caramel and apricot in the finish. This beer is nice and thick on the palate without being too much so or too syrupy. The nearly full body coats well and causes the wonderful flavors to linger. This beer is quite good, but I was actually hoping for more bite to help balance out more of the malty sweetness. However, this sucker does go down dangerously fast!

bottle courtesy of ucusty! pours a cloudy brown shade of amber with a lacy white head. it slowly fades to film and leaves light spotty lacing. aroma is caramel, grapefruit and orange rind, grass and spicy stinging hops. the palate is definitely sweet but the stingy hops jump in to help bail it out. the flavor is earthy, orange, brown sugar, malt, pine and floral hops. it gets a little ashy and dry at times from the yeast (or abundance of hops?). it finishes more sweet than hoppy but the aftertaste has a nice burn and dryness. medium body with no sticky mouth feel.

Pours a cloudy, dark orange with a muddled brown tint. A small, foamy, off-white head leaves behind sticky spiderweb lacing on the glass. The aroma shows rich, buttery toffee and chocolate malts over intense grassy and fruity hops. The flavor displays excellent balance, with rich, smooth, buttery malts perfectly counteracted by intense orange and grassy hop character. Medium-full body with a silky mouthfeel. Really nice IIPA. The addition of chocolate malts takes this one off the beaten path, down a road that is unfortunately rarely traveled amongst IPAs.

0.66L bottle from South Bay Drugs: Cloudy peach color with a medium, fading light beige head. Aroma is sweet over ripe fruit (orange, mango). Flavor starts sugary sweet and fruity with orange, pineapple, grapefruit and a hint of pine followed by a light dry orange rind finish. Medium body is sticky with moderate carbonation.

Nice looking beer on pour with good head and lacing, smell of barnyard hay in the nose, nice malty flavor is overpowered by an odd hop-induced grassy flavor that clings to the tongue, bitterness is high but not too bad for style
