Hoppy nose, quite earthy, mild sweetness, some caramel malt perhaps.   Smells fairly good.   Good hop presense on the tongue.
Quickly shows itself but its then held back by a fairly decent semi-sweet caramelish malt base.   Slight citrus rind as well.   This
one is a quasi IIPA as it seems to have some Barley Wine characteristics.   Welcome change from most of the West Coast hop sided IIPAs.
It certainly satisfies my hop craving I have had for the past week.   Body and mouthfeel are full to moderate.   While its got
a good malt base its not as sticky or thick as I would have thought.   I suppose any thicker and it really would be a Barley Wine.
Lingering hop goodness, sweetened citrus rind as well.   Pretty happy with this one.   Expensive, but worth a try for sure.

Loads of sweet caramel malt, tropical fruit, resinous hops, citrus, lemon peel, and grapefruit. Floral, piney, and very bitter. Excellent IIPA. boboski (1095), Alabama, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 31, 2007 A thin and slowly receding head is off-white/light beige. The body is hazy amber orange. Overall this is fairly standard but appealing. The nose is boldly citric, grapefruit dominating. Orange, pine, sugar and hints of guava jam highlight the majority of the remainder. There is a signifigant amount of moderately toasted grains and caramel with an artificial twang. The aroma, overall, is average but very enjoyable and easygoing. Astringency is mild in the flavor, thankfully - aroma indicated it could go either way. Hops are medium-high strength and vary in potency and varietal expression throughout each sip. Lightly caramelized and toasty malts linger in a spicy hoppy finish. The mouthfeel is medium-full bodied, heavily but evenly carbonated and relatively smooth. An enjoyable and admirable interpretation. TheCheeseMan (539), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA

Hints of grass, and a slight malt component. Flavor is intense. Full hops, with a hint of malty sweetness, knocked to the side by a hoppy and bitter finish. Pailhead (2602), Allen Park, Michigan, USA

Bottle: Simple aroma of grapefruit and caramel with some faint fruit. It pours a dark hazy amber with a small white head. The flavor starts with tropical fruits and caramel. It finishes with an aged citrus hoppiness and slight oxidation. Medium-bodied with a soft carbonation. tjthresh (1778), Greenfield, Indiana, USA

Poured hazy orange with a sticky off white head and some lace. Blunt pine, grapefruit, and orange aroma. Some malt sweetness manages to peak through. Very piney and full of grapefruit flavor. Again, the malt just barley cut through. Bitter as hell. Big body. Actually, if it were a bit thinner, this beer would be much better. Medium caronation. Semi sweet finish. Not bad. It will certainly give you your hop fix. Gregis (1133), Shawnee, Kansas, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Dec 31, 2007 Bottle shared by theisti at his Holiday Tasting on 12/28/07. Pours a hazy straw-orange with a thin, creamy, beige head that leaves patchy lace in its wake. The nose is a sweet, spicy, juniper-like note on top of citrus hops and a big caramel malt backing. Medium-bodied and soft with a dry, bitter finish. The flavor follows the nose, ending quite dry. Unfortunately, I’m not a big fan of gin/juniper berries, and that note kept me from enjoying this one as much as I would have in its absence. I’d have to agree with theisti that it’s a well made beer. I just didn’t care all that much for the flavor, overall. Sticky, thick lacing. Aroma of resin, pine, bitter grapefruit, with a little bit of bread dough. Huge, rich flavor. Grapefruit, strawberry-like fruits, and caramel up front with a huge hop bite of resin, lemon, and more grapefruit in the back. In the end, this drinks like a West Coast IIPA with sharper resiny tartness than normal. Loved it.
