Commercial Description:
This is the second in a range of Ølfabrikken special ales.
Starting with the rich and slightly sweet malt profile of a Belgian triple we have added a hop charge every five minutes for full duration of the boil - each hop charge 100 grams larger than the previous one. The result is an immensely bitter ale - a 100 IBU's of course.
Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers.

Bottle from South Bay. Dark amber color upon pouring. Dark rich syrupy malty aroma with a fair amount of bitterness. Very sweet with a good strong balance of hops and malt. Tastes like a rich malty strong ale with a bit of hops.

650 ml Bottle from Holiday. Pours a cloudy, murky copper color with a small white head that recedes to 1/8 inch and holds. As the head fades it leaves plenty of lacing in the glass. The aoma is sharp citrus, pine oil and flora notes resembling Lantana on a summer day. The flavor is dominated by biter hops with a mild underlying caramel sweetness. The flavor is complex with a nutty quality of walnuts and hazelnuts, nicely complimenting the citrus, caramel and pine. The mouthfeel is robust, full, and silky smooth, the carbonation is perfect for this style. This one finishes long and satisfying with a bit of sweet grass lingering along with the biter hops. Overall: This is one great DIPA. Highly Recommended.

Aroma of light citrus hops and some caramel maltiness. Flavor had a solid bitterness to it and hop flavor but the hop aroma seems to have faded a lot but is expected after traveling across the ocean. A little alcohol came through but overall a solid beer.

Pours a dark orange color. Aroma is of resinous and earthy hops with bits of citrus poking through with some malt to balance it out. Taste mirrors the aroma, but doesn’t deliver the big hop flavors that American IIPAs deliver. In fact, after tasting Nogne’s IPA and now Olfabrikken’s IIPA, I’m quite convinced that European IPAs and IIPAs aren’t my bag. They are a completely different animal then their American counterparts. Alcohol is slightly apparent but otherwise is pretty well incorporated into the brew. Not horrible, but not worth the price as Hopslam is a better taste and a better bargain.

Pours a clean amber color. Aroma is lightly hops, alcohol, and grapefruit especially. Bitter up front and then mellows out with a decent amount of malts and caramel. Palate falls pretty flat. Not impressed with the Danish IPA/IIPAs. The malts seem to overpower the hops. Had higher hopes for this one.

Bottle. Pour is a darkish orange with a bit of a head. Aromas are solidly hop... resin, pine, grapefruit, pineapple, etc. You also pick up some really sweet smelling malt there, too. Flavor is really hops dominated, but maybe a bit too much of that prickly overhopped feeling. Malt presence is nice, thick, sweet and syrupy. Lovely, but maybe would be better with some age.

Bottle. Shared with tupalev, my bottle. Cloudy deep orange pour, average off-white frothy head. Thick malt body, solid fruity (pineapple) and resin hops - very, very good - and big (yes, alcohol is there). Massive malt and big long-lingering resin bitterness, lots of pineapple and mango. Thick body, lovely astringency, long long bitterness. Excellent. I’m jealous.

A bit hot feeling going down. Beautiful ruby red mixed with a great golden color. Nose big on piney citrusy hops mixed with a small amount of malt. A little dry and overly spiced but it has a pleastness to it that I don’t think I could explain.
