Earthy, and dank aroma full of foliage and fruit ; nectarine, peach, candy, and something barrel-like in disposition. Pleasant hints of apple and sagebrush. Pure, floral hop taste of lavender, clover honey, and grasses; this leans into honey and thin whiskey with a full bittersweet chocolate character and pine oil. Surprisingly prominent vegetal tones and brown rice muscle through with the temperature increase. Bark, caramel, some peat, and damp, mildewy basement tones; cotton candy, green spices and peppers with a pleasant bite. Full and oily palate, fittingly rich and carefully eschewing the alcohol presence. Some black cherry sweetness and pine finishes, eventually revealing a pure essence of dark, and bitter, yerba mate. Its bitterness is surely quite powerful, the medicinal tendency sufficiently, if weakly, restrained. Pleasant, altogether, and well-made. Zeswaft (1000), Seattle, Washington, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 19, 2007 Massive pine aroma and some rich caramel malts. Pours copper with a one finger white head. Man, this stuff tastes good. The flavor is very robust. Rich pine and grapefruit flavors and a ton of malty sweetness. Methinks this tastes like a super fresh Weyerbacher Double Simcoe. Thus, there must be boat loads of simcoe in this. This is one of the best IIPA’s that I’ve had in years. Very balanced and smooth. 8.5% is a little low which might explain why it’s not very harsh. Awesome beer. Definitely the best beer to come out of the overhyped Scandinavian breweries. Well worth the $8 for a bomber...Well I just looked up the hopbill and there is no simcoe in this. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Oct 17, 2007 Updated: Oct 29, 2007The nose on this is phenomenal, with a sharp hit of grassy and juicy grapefruit and mango hop oil, some grassiness and some sweet pear and white grape/fruit cocktail leafy hop notes. There’s even a juicy mandarin-orange-cannibus scent in there. Just really, really nice. Rich, sticky, juicy, full, overly grassy, overly fruity, overly everything... amazingly rich, dank, spicy, sharp, wet, and juicy, with soft floral notes tingling on the back. This seriously does rival Pliny the Elder as one of the best made double IPAs I’ve had. Ridiculously delicious. tytoanderso (1387), St. Louis Park, Minnesota, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 17, 2007 Bottle. Aroma of piney, oily, resinous hops. Sweet malt. A very odd, but interesting hint of white truffle. Pours murky orange wih brown undertones. Sticky lacing. Flavor is restrained, sweet, oily and rich hop attack. Lots of sticky malt. Chocolate, caramel and nouget. Tastes kind of like a pine cone crossed with a Snickers. Creamy and rich on the palate. Medium to full bodied. Interesting. badgerben (3605), Blaine, Minnesota, USA
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 16, 2007 Murky copper color with a quickly falling medium head. The screaming citrus aroma is noticeable from a foot away. Oh my god... The sweet malt base is incredible. Biscuty and caramel, yet the bitterness stands out above all. It somehow manages to not be such a puckering acidicness that makes a man cry, but oh my word. I would camp out underneath a tap of this. Two Olfabrikkens and two 4.5 scores. Outstanding! alexsdad06 (1106), Ohio, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 15, 2007 22.3 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy amber color with a good sized beige head. The aroma is citrus and pine hops with a sweet malt presence as well. Nice! The flavor is heavy on the sweet caramel malt and citrus. There is a little pine, but the bitterness doesn’t kick in until the finish. This is sweeter and lacks the hop hammer of some of the big west coast IPA’s, but is solid in its own right. Medium/full bodied with a fairly smooth texture going down. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. TomDecapolis (3213), Skippack, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 15, 2007 Pours a lightly hazy golden amber with a medium creamy/foamy lacing off white head. Exactly how an IPA should look! Aroma was a blast of citrus, pine, caramel, some earthy notes. Very nice aroma! Flavor is on the almost cloying sweet side. Lots of sweet malts, yeast, caramel, hints of toffee and candy sweetness. The hops that were in the aroma are a bit covered up in the flavor. As I became used to the sweetness this one got better and even began to showcase a nice hop bitterness in the tail. Also picking up some earthiness, pine and mixed citrus. Sweet upfront but pulled together nicely by the intense use of the hops. miketd (685), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Oct 14, 2007 Pour is a deep amber with a large white head. Aroma of citrus, earth, pine, floral and sweet malt. Flavor is more sweet than bitter with a floral, sweet fruit thing. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy. Probably better fresh.
