Commercial Description:
This is the second in a range of Ølfabrikken special ales.
Starting with the rich and slightly sweet malt profile of a Belgian triple we have added a hop charge every five minutes for full duration of the boil - each hop charge 100 grams larger than the previous one. The result is an immensely bitter ale - a 100 IBU's of course.
Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers.

50 cl bottle. Hazy amber color. Foaming, disappering off-white head. Very hoppy, as it should be, floral sweetness and in the end a very bitter finish. Oily body. Mmmm.

Mahoghny coloured and a white foamy head. The aroma attacks with flowers, hops, sweet malt, vanilla, nuts and peach. Flavoris malty, nuts, toffee and rounds up with a little peppery finish.

2005 bottle just imported to the US. Very hazy orange/copper with a medium head. Fair lacing and retention. Aroma is big on caramel malts and brown sugar, and smaller on citrus, pine and tropical fruit type hops.
Very well balanced IIPA. I almost never consider this a good things in my IIPA’s. Reminds me a lot of aged Dreadnaught, and I’ll rank it right beside. It’s just not MY type of beer.
I’m through with stale IIPA’s. This bottle was at least honest with 2005 printed on it. I just stupidly ignored the warning.

22.3oz bottle. pours hazy dark orange with white head. nose just doesn’t seem that fresh. some alcohol and sweet caramel notes notes with piney and juicy hop notes bringing in some orange and grapefruit. flavor again, isn’t that bitter, how long did it take for these to get over to the states?, piney, oranges, and pinneapple notes but they seem a big juicy and not vibrant. a sweet alcohol flavor in the finish but doesn’t really warm at all. carbonation is really smooth and body is med-silky. some rating rave about this beer which makes me wonder if my bottle isn’t that fresh, but what do i have to do? this bottle just hit the store and i gotta believe shelton brothers weren’t sitting on a double ipa.

22.3oz bottle. Poured a deeper and slightly hazy orange color with a larger sized off white head. Aromas of pine, grapefruits, oranges, pineapples, with some caramel. Tastes of pine, caramel, citrus, pineapples, orange peels, and fruity. Light alcohol in the finish, but overall well hidden.

I love to see foreign beers make it to American shores, especially great ones. In the past, I’ve been critical of foreign raters giving low scores to great American beers. With this one, however, it pains me to see Danes/Scandanavians giving this one low scores. If I loved across the pond, I’d kill to be able to procure this one regularly. Perhaps it’s a "familiarity breeds contempt" sort of thing. Anyway, rate and let rate, and on to my review (I call it a review, because the Ball Strums hate the word "rate"). The pour is hazy deep copper, heading toward ruby, with 2-fingers of frothy off-white head, and lace rings to spare. I swear I saw the Virgin Mary herself in the lace of this after I finished it (and no, she wasn’t taking a dump). The aroma. My God, Bob Griese, let me tell ’ya ’bout the aroma. Huge tropical fruit, heavy floral hops, solid caramel malt, with tangerine, pineapple, black pepper, mango, and definite watermelon notes. I spent at least 90 seconds smelling this one. The taste has caramel malt, candi sugar, wet hops, tropical fruit including mango, watermelon, honeydew, tangerine; all the fruit is wonderfully balanced by a hefty malt bill. The palate is rich, complex, creamy, very well balanced between the malt, fruit, and hops, with the hops predominating ever-so-slightly, as expected. This one has unvelievably well hidden alcohol, and gets a bit stickier and hoppier as it warms, but the awesome caramel malt base never accedes, and I was truly sorry to drink the last dregs, especially since my only other bottle of this is saved for a fellow Pennsylvania Beer God. I hope I get to horizontal this one with Dreadnaught one of these days, but as it stands, I dare say this one likely succeeds Dreadnaught on the surface. This is without a doubt one of the best (and by best I mean Top 3) IIPAs I have ever quaffed, and let me thank the beer rater’s best friend, Matt Capone, for having the intelligence, the guts, and the wherewithall to bring this one stateside. If you live near Capone’s, you really need to go get this one now. If you don’t, for Gods’ sake, find someone who will trade it to you. Yeah, man!!!!!!!!

Excellent beer! Flowery aroma with lots of passion fruit. Fruity flavor initially then a long bitterness. Certainly worth the high price! :)

I think the appearence is very inviting, colour: orange/brown, cloudy with a white head. Strong hob flavour/bitternes and a nice creamy texture. Aroma: floral, slight caramel.
