Commercial Description:
This is the second in a range of Ølfabrikken special ales.
Starting with the rich and slightly sweet malt profile of a Belgian triple we have added a hop charge every five minutes for full duration of the boil - each hop charge 100 grams larger than the previous one. The result is an immensely bitter ale - a 100 IBU's of course.
Ølfabrikken 100 gram IPA is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers.

Bottle: Pours a hazy copper with a small one finger tan head. The aroma is sweet, somewhat toffee like with a hint of the hops you would expect in an American IPA. This IPA is malt driven for sure. There is a sweet almost caramel character to this beer. I also feel like I get a bit of smoke? The mouth feel is medium-heavy and lingers for awhile. This is a good beer but it doesn’t fit the style. Never a bad thing to try something new.

Interesting blend of styles, sweet Belgian and hoppy IPA. Deep Amber, creamy white head. Malty, hoppy, sweet nose. Big and rich, mouthcoatnig. Sweet, bitter, hoppiness, balanced with that malty sweetness form the sucre. Long finish. I think I prefer my IPA’s clean, and by Belgians sweet, neither the twain to meet.

(Draught at Pikkulintu on 2008-01-24) Clear. Amberish in colour. White head. Lots of hops in nose. And in the taste there are more hops. Medium-bodied.

(Bottle at HBF08)
Clear amber, thick pale head. Caramel malty aroma with strong and fresh fruity hops. Quite sweet and intense, a bit piney even. Flavor is sweetish caramel malts, spicy liquorice, orange and citric fruity hops. Strongly bitter finish. Full bodied, very smoothly carbonated palate. Hops balance the sweetness nicely, excellent! (edit: corrected from draught to bottle.)

Bottle, pours a hazy, yellow-orange body with foamy, yellow-white head. Aroma of citrus, grapefruit, and yeast. Flavor of sweet malts, hops, and carmelized banana. Medium-bodied with a dry hop aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours a slighlty hazy amber with a pretty average head. Aroma of citrusy hops, malt, and honey. The flavor is a little weird, very malty sweet for an IPA, but excellent hop flavor also. There is not any real discernable bitterness to balance the malt, but as I said, excellent hop flavor. I don’t taste the advertised 100IBU in this beer. It could stand a little more bitterness hops, but it is very enjoyable regardless. Also, this is a tweener to me, slightly bigger than an IPA, but not really an IIPA.
