Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale is our interpretation of the dark and strong ales brewed in the Belgian monasteries. A more than hundred year old yeast strain provides the beer with notes of raisins and prunes supplemented by a discrete spicy aroma from coriander. The flavor is big and vinous and dominated by caramel. Enjoy it with braised meat, game and ripe cheese. Of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Bottled. Orangeish amber colour with huge slightly off-white head. Aroma is some yeast, fruits, alcohol and mild spicing. Flavour is fruits, spices, alcohol and yeast. While cold not the most exciting thing, but as it warms up it gets smoother.

750 mL bottle, pours a burnt orange/amber body with generous off-white, foamy head. Quite a bit of sediment in the pour. Aroma of citrus, banana, belgian malts, and a hint of clove. Flavors of caramel malts, belgian malts, banana, bread, yeast, and clove. Sweet malt finish with a biscuit aftertaste. Slight alcohol burn in the finish.

Thanks to zeke626 for sharing. The color and the amount of sediment in each glass depended upon which pour you received. The first pours were orange and later pours were a copper-orange color. The amount of sediment went from moderate to "holy crap that’s a lot of sediment." There was a generous amount to off-white foam. In the aroma I got sweet citrus fruit malt, alcohol, faint banana, and faint cloves. The first thing to assault your tongue is the sweet citrus fruit malt. In the mid-palate I got more caramel malt and Belgian malt. It had a sweet malty finish.

750ml bottle from west lakeview....medium amber pour with a moderate creamy slightly off-white head....spice and yeast make up much of the nose as well as some slighty acidic fruit, sweet malt and a little alcohol....flavors follow through in a similar manner. dried fruits, sweet caramel malt, prunes and raisins. lively carbonated mouthfeel and a sweeter finish with just a touch of alcohol.

[Bottle] Pours reddish-brown with a big light tan head. Aroma is slightly tart, fruity, spicy and yeasty. Taste is about the same with the tartness, caramel malt and spice more accentuated. Medium mouthfeel and smooth. I’ve had this beer a couple of times now and it has been really nice both times.

750 ml bottle shared with my wife. Pours a cloudy dark brown that allows some light to pass through with a moderate off-white head that lasted beyond mid-glass and left ample lace. The perfume of this beer I thought was exquisite with lots apples, oranges, caramel and yeast filling the nose. The flavor was more dominated by the caramel with some apples, oranges, raisins and a bit of light spice present in lesser quantities. Smooth at the finish. Medium/full bodied. A really enjoyable brew.

750ml caged&corked bottle. Pours a dark brown/auburn with orange and copper highlights. The head pours thick and off-white/cream in color and doesn’t last long. The aroma is vinous fruits, subtle smoke, and caramel. The flavor starts sweet with caramel and cakey, bready malts. There is a good bit of fruit and spice and mid-tongue. The beer finishes with some dryness, a decent, spicy bitterness, and some ethanol flavor. The mouthfeel is vigorously carbonated, full in body with slippery tendrils, and has lots of gas. Overall, a very decent, bittersweet strong ale.
