Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale is our interpretation of the dark and strong ales brewed in the Belgian monasteries. A more than hundred year old yeast strain provides the beer with notes of raisins and prunes supplemented by a discrete spicy aroma from coriander. The flavor is big and vinous and dominated by caramel. Enjoy it with braised meat, game and ripe cheese. Of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Yum! Deep amber/Brown in color with light opacity. Ample head with light bubbles. A nose od spice, pipe tobacco, raisin, light toast, but not too sweet. Medium weight, gorgeous deep flavor, like drinking good vanilla pipe tobacco.

Pours a hazy amber color, some chunkies floating, with a tan head. Aroma is malty, green apple, spicy, yeasty, and some candi sugar. Flavor is malty, candi sugar, fruit, caramel, and a warming alcohol finish.

Pours a beautiful orange rust color with a small thin white/tan head, and average lacing. Average carbonation with a smell of sweet malt, hops and Belgium yeast. Tastes of hops, malt, yeast with a citrus overone. Very balanced. This one good Abbey. Drink and Enjoy!

500 ml. bottle from CelticBrew and shared with him. Big, loosely structured foamy head that collapses to a thin layer rather quickly, but good lace nonetheless. Earthy, fruity aroma, with notes of toffee and a hint of spice. Medium body with lively effervescence that helps to offset some of the stickiness. Decidedly sweet up front as the caramel maltiness takes over, and the soft bitterness comes on slowly for some welcome balance. Still, there is a lingering sweetness through the finish. Generally, I like my beer somewhat more bitter and drier, but this was very enjoyable and well crafted.

Shared with DrBayern (Hey Matt!), pours ruby reddish brown from 750 ml bottle. Formed nice size foamy head, medium to large bubbles. Aroma of yeast, rock candy, banana’s, vanilla beans with carameled plums. Flavour is malty yeast flavour, rock candy and spices come through. Plums cherries, yeast and spices swill together to form a lovely beer.

Pours a dark and somewhat opaque brown with healthy 1 1/2 finger tan head. Nose is treacly without being cloying, with notes of raisins, coriander (similar to jacobite ale), yeasty tartness, and a delightful perfumy malt character. Lovely velvet on the palate, with more pronounced yet well balanced malt sweetness, starting with a restrained berry character before moving to a warming, almost spearmint-like hop finish. A really classy beer.

750 mL bottle purchased at Liquor Max in Loveland, CO. Pours cloudy amber with a small amount of particles, large, frothy and fizzy light brown head, mostly lasting with good lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (bread, cookie, straw), average hops (herbs, grass), average yeast (barnyard, earth) with notes of pepper and coriander. Medium bodied, gritty texture, lively carbonation, and a bitter finish. Long duration, light sweetness, acidity, and bitterness; nice array of spices.
