Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale is our interpretation of the dark and strong ales brewed in the Belgian monasteries. A more than hundred year old yeast strain provides the beer with notes of raisins and prunes supplemented by a discrete spicy aroma from coriander. The flavor is big and vinous and dominated by caramel. Enjoy it with braised meat, game and ripe cheese. Of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Brown clean pour with white head and lace. Aroma of dirt and light caramelly notes and hints of yeast. Very rich high viscous flavor of caramel and malt a sourish bitter finish. Solid palate and good carbonation. All round brown sugar flavored beer sweet.

I expected a lot from the producers of the best Porter I’ve ever had. They delivered. Pours cloudy reddish brown with nice tan head. Aroma is earthy but subtle. Flavor is anything but with raisin, banana, caramel, brown sugar and spice. Medium body with fair amount of carbonation. A really nice beer. Done well.

Pours a transparent amber ruby with a well-lacing frothy dark tan head. Aroma of sweet honey and doughy Belgian yeast with a biscuity malty character. Body starts sweet and doughy malty with some mild floral light fruity esters and honey flavor before a slightly drier bready finish. A true to style and fairly complex Abbey Dubbel.

750ml shared by kmweaver. Has a pretty nice smell overall, full of the expected brown sugar dark Belgian-style yeast characteristics: a little clove, some toast, some banana, nice phenolic. Flavor is just as good - a lot of chewy, nearly resinous brown sugar, clove and dough, moderately frothy, wonderfully balanced, full of spices, bread and fruit. A really nice beer.

Courtesy of kmweaver. Hazy dark amber with a small beige head. Plummy, vinous nose with herbs, spice, caramel and pear. The flavor is lightly sweet, light bitter with lots of herbal hops, flowers, golden raisins, spice and dough. Medium/full body is round with moderate carbonation. Finish is long and dries the palate.

750mL bottle. Pours a hazy, reddish-brown color; khaki head with patchy, medium-bubbled lacing. Brown sugar and candy sugar in the aroma; kind of sticky sweet with some red fruits. Highly carbonated mouthfeel: sticky dried fruits (raisins, dates) and caramel and brown sugar; somewhat warm and boozy, and the fizzy carbonation takes away from the mouthfeel; warming alcohol presence, and honestly a bit hot; dense, fizzy, slightly muddled abbey dubbel. Medium, sugary finish: brown sugar, sticky, and slightly warming at the end.

Pours to a nice tan frothy head. Large amount of yeast sediment entered glass which resulted in some yeast bite. Head slowy faded away. Sharp flavor that settles softens as you taste.
