Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale is our interpretation of the dark and strong ales brewed in the Belgian monasteries. A more than hundred year old yeast strain provides the beer with notes of raisins and prunes supplemented by a discrete spicy aroma from coriander. The flavor is big and vinous and dominated by caramel. Enjoy it with braised meat, game and ripe cheese. Of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Pours a dark amber/red hue. Poured in appropriate glassware. Nice tight beer foam that is tan and lingers very well. Aroma of raisins, candied nuts, mild spice and slight alcohol. The taste is rich and satiating. Notes of plums, brown sugar, caramelized apples and clove. The middle is sweet but fades fast in the finish and keeps me going back to this enjoyable brew. Well done and nice bottle presentation.

Pours a light brown body, slightly hazed, with a tall fizzy pale tan head that subsides pretty quickly. Slippery lacing comes & goes. The aroma is nice, toasty sweet malts, dark plums, brown sugar, a faint floral bouquet. It’s light bodied and vibrantly carbonated. The flavor adds some dark dried fruit, orchard fruit, and caramel. Pretty decent, if somewhat gassy.

Pours mahogany, clear at first, towards the end of the bottle very cloudy with yeast floaters. Very nice beer all around, fruity and spicy, hint of sweet red grape, caramel candies, and a light raisin hint towards the end.

huge aggressive head, had to let it settle before sampling, sweet dark fruit aroma, a mix of raisins and grapes ,some oakiness alos, rich fruit and caramel taste, with a very enjoyable fudge carmel frosting finish, carbonation a little biting, alcohol only hinted at. flavors seem to lighten towards end. A top notch brew, from this famous brewery. Wish we could get more around the Midwest
