Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale is our interpretation of the dark and strong ales brewed in the Belgian monasteries. A more than hundred year old yeast strain provides the beer with notes of raisins and prunes supplemented by a discrete spicy aroma from coriander. The flavor is big and vinous and dominated by caramel. Enjoy it with braised meat, game and ripe cheese. Of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Flaske: Flot dybrød øl med et flot skumhoved. Masser af frugt og vinnoter i duften. Karboneringen matcher den meget vinøse smag rigtig godt. I det hele taget en rigtig god øl.

This is good stuff. A strong Belgian dubbel. Beautiful in the glass, thick and foamy in the mouth. Sweet dark fruits enveloped in caramel and spice.

Red-orange pour with lots crap floating around (bad pour by me). Tan head. Fruity aroma with apples, raisins and dried fruit. Slightly sweet fruity flavor. Cherries and raisins dominate. Bitter hops with a metallic finish. Alcohol flavor.

75cl bottle from Part-Pak Liquors (Indianapolis, IN). Pours a hazy dark brown color with a thin tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of ripe dark fruit, caramel, honey, prunes, raisins, and candy sugar. Flavor is also malty and sweet wtih similar notes of figs, raisins, candy sugar, caramel, toffee, ripe dark fruit and some phenol notes toward finish. Generally medium to full body with a pleasing sweet and malty finish.

Thanks kiefdog for the share! Pours an amber brown with a small, off-white head. Holy particulates, Batman! Nose has phenol, raisins, earthy fruit, candy sugar, caramel, and maybe some currants. Flavor is similar with noticeable yeast and lots of sweetness and complexity. I like it.

bottle 75cl all by myself heh heh , found in ølbutikken (bbf 2012) ap:pours dark brown, some floaties, small yellow/lighty brown head. strong fruity, raisins , dark fruits aroma, some alc or rather oomph power to it. butter-roasted white bread. palate is too bubbly for me, bubble-up-in-my-mouth-feeling. [after waiting 10mins palate got real good] flavor is good. caramel, sweet dark fruits, candi sugar. ends in some kind of alc and spices bitterness that also isn’t THAT good. After i let it warm up and settle a white, it got loads better. don’t serve below 12celcius. you’ll need a well tempered bottle to do a fair rating.

Bottle: The aroma consists of fruit, caramel, banana, raisin, and slight vinous notes. It pours a cloudy orangish-red with lots of sediment and a half-inch off white head. The flavor starts moderately fruity with banana and yeast. There is some faint candi sugar in the middle. The finish is lightly vinous with some light-moderate raisin and a touch of alcohol. It’s medium bodied with lively carbonation that initially comes across a tad prickly at times. However, after sitting for 10 minutes, the carbonation really softens.
