Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale is our interpretation of the dark and strong ales brewed in the Belgian monasteries. A more than hundred year old yeast strain provides the beer with notes of raisins and prunes supplemented by a discrete spicy aroma from coriander. The flavor is big and vinous and dominated by caramel. Enjoy it with braised meat, game and ripe cheese. Of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Bottle, 8.5%. Malty and sweet aroma. Cloudy dark red and brown aroma. Lost of floaties. Small tan head. Good malty flavour, lots of dried fruits. Gets a little yeasty as it warms. Very well-balanced. Good alcohol level to match the maltiness.

No one seems to be able to produce the abbey ales like the Belgians. This is a nice tasting beer with a dark fruit flavoring. Not quite as thick as many abbey dubbels. A bit of complexity, but again, not like from the Belgium Monastaries. A bit of noticable alcohol.

Pours a reddish brown with a big tan head. Aroma is of dark fruit, malt, sweet, caramel. Flavor is of strong, sweet, caramel, dark fruit, yeast, very nice abbey style ale. This is the best of the new Danish beers that I’ve had lately.

Bottle shared with Hogtown Harry, Blankboy, Jerc, Mabel, and GregClow, courtesy of blankboy. Dark brown, foamy brown head. Nice aroma: strong and sweet. Great taste, strong, sweet, yet hoppy as well. Nicely done.

Bottle. Reddish brown with a bunch of little pieces of sediment slightly bigger than bread crumbs. Huge head that left very little lacing. Aroma was very ripe dark fruit, sweet malt, yeast, and a fair amount of alcohol. Many sweet flavors which complimented the aroma, but the alcohol came through much stronger than I was expecting. Lots of fizzy carbonation, medium bodied, and somewhat of a quick and easy finish.

This cloudy orange ale poured with a massive fluffy beige head that survived to the bottom of my Chimay glass, and a spice aroma. There is a tasty caramel malt base overlayed with pumpkin and spice flavors. This brew displays some characteristics associated with Belgian abbey ales, yet there are enough unique facets to make this an interesting beer.

This thing blew up on me, scarred the shit out of me, caused me to drop the bottle on the ground, beer poured everywhere, and i wasted a good 5 minutes of my time cleaning it up. my time is money, lots of it, these fuckers owe me like $20. Once that Rhinoceros horn of a head settled down, the beer beneath was a nice shade of dark amber brown and the head was now thin and whispy and quite lace inducing. The nose had strong notes of scotch, decomposing fruit, mildew, dirty undies, yeast, and vomit. all in a good way, mind you. The beer is pretty sweet, somewhat yeasty (cobweb, bubblegum) and slightly spicy, like orange peel maybe and a touch of coriander,. All in all, is pretty solid spicy abbey ale.

Jeeze, what a powerhouse. Haltingly aromatic, with clouds of sublime fig, prune, malt and alcohol in the nose. Flavor is rich and thick with the above plus raisin and coffee. Texture is magically Belgian - hits the tongue and evaporates like lighter fluid. Big and very sweet.
