Commercial Description:
Editor's note: Brewed by Ølfabrikken at Het Anker, Mechelen, Belgium.

Ølfabrikken Abbey Ale is our interpretation of the dark and strong ales brewed in the Belgian monasteries. A more than hundred year old yeast strain provides the beer with notes of raisins and prunes supplemented by a discrete spicy aroma from coriander. The flavor is big and vinous and dominated by caramel. Enjoy it with braised meat, game and ripe cheese. Of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and refermented in the bottle.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a fast disapperaing brown head with sediment floating around. The aroma is sweet mlaty with strong notes of caramel, medium notes of yeast, and lesser notes of alcohol. The flavor is sweet mlaty with strong notes of alcohol, combined with notes of caramel, spices, brown sugar, and yeast.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of Grovlam. Pours a hazy, orangey brown with a dense, off-white head leaving some lacework. Complex, fruity and vinous nose. Quite full in body full of sweetish, roasted malt and again this delicate vinous fruitiness - some marzipan also. Excellent. 090507

75 cl bottle. Pours deep brown with a huge light brown head. Aroma is hoppy, sweet caramel, malty and yeasty. Yeast provides clear notes of raisins and a characteristic belgian aroma. Strangely this reminds me of both an Orval and Westmalle tripel at the same time. Full bodied almost winous. Alcohol presence is clear but softly blended with the malt. Flavour is caramel sweet with a good bitterness in the end. A clear strength in the taste is coming from the alcohol. Sweet to light dry in the finish. I wonder what this will taste like in a year from now.

Bottled at Københavnske Øldage. Muddy amber, airy head. Almondy caramel aroma. Sweet and softly malty with evident Belgian style yeast character. Near full bodied. Vinous and viscous with cherries, biscuits and some banana. Low bitterness. Complex, powerful and really good!

Bottle, 8.5%. Malty and sweet aroma. Cloudy dark red and brown aroma. Lost of floaties. Small tan head. Good malty flavour, lots of dried fruits. Gets a little yeasty as it warms. Very well-balanced. Good alcohol level to match the maltiness.

Bottled. Orangeish amber colour with huge slightly off-white head. Aroma is some yeast, fruits, alcohol and mild spicing. Flavour is fruits, spices, alcohol and yeast. While cold not the most exciting thing, but as it warms up it gets smoother.
