Commercial Description:
An experiment where we tried to make a classic British strong ale, as they used to be brewed. A very bitter and flavorful ale hopped with copious amounts of British whole leaf hops added in several steps during the brew process - with the last addition directly in the cask from where the ale is served. Spicy, floral aroma combined with a firm malt profile makes this brew strong tasting, but still very quaffable. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, two types of caramel malt and the finest Demerare cane sugar. Ølfabrikken "Britisk Strong Ale" is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and cask conditioned like all of our beers. Introduced on 'Fynske Øldage' 2005.

An unclear amber beer with an orange head. The aroma is sweet hoppy and malty with light notes of caramel. The flavor is sweet with quite a lot of alcohol, giving a slight alcohol burn, but also lots of hops and caramel, leading to a dry end. I’d say it is too hoppy for an English Strong Ale, but it is a good beer.

(On tap) Unclear - almost muddy - light brown with an orange glow. Small, beige head. Hoppy, fruity nose. Light caramelish malt sweetness, with a dry hoppy finish. Very classical from this brewery, but by now I start to feel, that their beers are a bit too similar. Just adding loads of quality aroma hops doesn’t necessarily make a great brew. 281005

Draught. Very nice hop aroma (like most other Ølfabrikken beers). Dark copper colour. Small creamy head. Flavour is hoppy, of course. Creamy mouthfeel. Slightly dusty aftertaste.

First retired beer I drink on draught... Hazy amber, small yellowish head. British hops, dry hopped. I seemed to get diacetyl, but gone after the first nosefull. Caramel, no doubt. Dry hoppy with UK hops if I ever had some. Wow, this is just so right - leafy, hoppy, even citrus hops, resiny. Medium bodied, just as it ought to be. Impressed. I wish the British brewers made it that well - as this was on KEG, if you please.

Tasted at Fynske Øldage 2005, Cloudy amber colour with a small off white head. Sweet, light fruity aroma with light vanilla note. Hoppy bitter flavor with a light toffee note. Dry finish.
