Commercial Description:
This dark, rich ale is based on the combination of eight different malts and cereals. This yields a complex malt profile with some sweetness, balanced by American hops, which also provides the ale with a citrussy aroma. Can be enjoyed on a cold day by itself or with grilled meat and hearty stews. Ølfabrikken Brown Ale is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Bottle, Pig’s Ear Festival, London: Hazy brown beneath a thin head. Nice toasty makt aroma with some faint citrussy hops. In the mouth it’s toasty again but much more intense with some cocoa powder notes holding it together, and finishing with a quick hoppy bite. Lovely.

Comments: A chocolatey brown ale in the hoppy, citrusy American mold. Roastiness ultimately clashes a bit with the acidity inherent to the hops. Less natural than most offering from this brewery.

Murky brown body, with a large fluffy head and ample lacing. Aroma of roasted malt, some dark fruit, grapefruit, some chocolate, not unlike some of those hoppy USA porters. Bittersweet and roasty taste - a large malt profile, with chocolate, cherry, caramel, espresso, plus well-integrated grapefruity hops. Dries out dramatically in the finish. Excellent balance. Low on CO2.
