Commercial Description:
ØLFABRIKKEN COLUMBUS PALE ALE is a tribute to the American Columbus hop, which we love so much at Ølfabrikken. The beer presents itself with astonishing pungent aroma of pine and grapefruit, which is coming back in the flavor, balanced by sweetness from British caramel-malt. The aftertaste is long and dry and characterized by hops bitterness. Serve it with creole food such as blackened fish and dirty rice with melted butter, homemade chili/raisin/apple chutney. Ølfabrikken Columbus Pale Ale is of course unfiltered, unpasteurized like all Ølfabrikken beers.

I had been saving this one for a special occasion and finally got a chance to have it this weekend. nice release of gas when I popped the top. poured a dark amber color with a large off white head. The nose was very faint... little bit of a hoppy smell. quite the hoppy taste....slight bit of fruity undertone. finished with bitter aftertaste. Wasn’t quite worth the wait but still a good beer.

(Bottle, BBE 20.6.2008) Deep amber. Clear. Largish dense white head. Malts, sweetness and a little bit hops in nose. Full-bodied palate with little carbonation, bit watery. Malts, white bread, a little bit of salty liquorice and slight amount of hops in taste. It seems beer in this bottle had lost some of its edge while aging.

Bottle, courtesy of Enjoyit. Clear, copper beer with a decent off-white head. Lots of hops dominates the aroma, with citrusy and pine, yet it’s malty enough to give it some balance. Not bad for a beer this weak. The flavor is sweet and malty up front, with some caramel, but is soon overpowered by all the hops and it’s piney and resiny flavors. Full body. Piney and resiny finish with a malty touch. Sure a lovely blend of malt and hops. Pity it’s gone. (080412)

Orange-amber in colour, large lingering off-white coloured head, excellent lacing. The aroma was quite hoppy, floral, lots of sweetness, caramel and citrus. The flavour is of light grapefruit, orange citrus, highly bitter, some caramel sweetness. Bitter mouthfeel, medium body, medium/high carbonation. Finishes long, lots of citrus bite, lingering dry bitterness.

Well crafted, I really enjoyed the bitterness in this, good balance, excellent citrus bite.

500ml bottle obtained in a trade with TheCheeseMan, thanks Dan.

Deep amber with medium off white head. Moldy aroma with hoppy notes. Flavor likewise with a malty touch. Something must be wrong with this beer.
