Commercial Description:
Near Ølfabrikken is a field with 1000 raspberry plants carrying a late sort of small and very flavorful raspberries. Once a year we pick the raspberries and throw them into a single brew. Due to The harvest 2005 was characterized by more rain and colder weather than usual, which meant than the berries was more tart than usual and even more complex in flavor. We decided that the base beer should be complex and sweet to match the berries. The resulting beer made from seven different malts, three different sugars, five different hops and a Belgian ale yeast provides a huge body and complexity matching the raspberries. Ølfabrikken Dekadence 2005 is of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Deep brown body. Fizzy, swiftly diminishing (brown) head. Aroma of raspberries, caramel malts. Very well balanced between the malts and the raspberries. Moderately bitter, lightly sweet flavour of malts with again hints of raspberries. Great!

Bottle LCRBM08. Solid fruity nose - raspberries - with sweet dark malt and a touch of wort underneath. Solid sweet, light bitter flavour, full bodied. Strong sweet-fruity finish with some balancing tartness in the aftertaste. Impressive brew........

Bottle@LCRBM08. Very fruity aroma, raspberry, banana, red berries and black ones as well. Cloudy, red brown color, beige head, good lace. Fruitjuice flavor, sour, bitter, some licorice and very sweet. Sticky and alcoholic. Drinkable but too fruity, bit out of balance and too alcoholic.

Good yellowish head, gone in secs. Dark gold-copper beer, like old brandy. Alcohol wafting from the glass, as, again, old brandy, realy smelling like a glass of vieux cognac . Sweet, alcohol, vinous & brandy-like, brandycake, ending even a bit almondy. Very slick, nearly tear-forming, enormous alcoholwarming. Maybe one of the most brandy-like beers ever tasted.

Thanks to iowaherkeye for bringing this bottle to his ’farewell to Iowa’ tasting. Poured a hazy brown-orange color with an off white head. Smelled of pear and raspberry. Medium bodied and sweet with a syrupy mouth feel. I tasted raspberry cough syrup, pear, and toffee. Lots of berries. With the exception of the cough syrup note, I wouldn’t have had any idea this was 13%. Not bad.
