Commercial Description:
Near Ølfabrikken is a field with 1000 raspberry plants carrying a late sort of small and very flavorful raspberries. Once a year we pick the raspberries and throw them into a single brew. Due to The harvest 2005 was characterized by more rain and colder weather than usual, which meant than the berries was more tart than usual and even more complex in flavor. We decided that the base beer should be complex and sweet to match the berries. The resulting beer made from seven different malts, three different sugars, five different hops and a Belgian ale yeast provides a huge body and complexity matching the raspberries. Ølfabrikken Dekadence 2005 is of course unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Draught at Københavnske Øldage 2007. Hazy brownish amber. Aroma of red currant and lingonberries. Sweet with tart red currant flavour. Surprisingly slim body, with some dense caramel under lying underneath the vinous berry fkavour. Finishes with low bitterness. Unusual. A beer to love or to hate.

Served at copenhagen beer festival 2007, so i guess it was a new version, but couldnt find it on the list. I’ve really come to love these tart/acidic fruit brews, and this one is in the top. The strong rasberry and anis nose with added sugar reminded me of "the king of denmark" bonbons. The alchohol is noticeable in the aroma aswell. Remarkable acidic flavor with a nice bitter finish, love this one.

Bottle. Pours a hazy, deep red/brown with a nice creamy, light brown head. Sharp, yet also soft, acidic/sourish aroma at first. Clearly this comes from the raspberries, but it doesn’t smell like raspberries as such. Faint notes of licorice in the background. Becomes more fruity as it warms. Sweet licorice flavour. A bit cloying. Medium bitterness. As it warms, it gives way for fruity notes and notes of plums. No raspberries though. Grassy notes in the finish as well as notes of alcohol and a sourish touch. An okay beer, but not nearly worth the insane price. Can’t tell it’s 13% though. 08-03-07.
