Commercial Description:
An Ølfabrikken guest brew. For the second time we have invited one of our colleagues to come by and do any brew he or she would like.
ØLFABRIKKEN MCWILDER is a Scottish ale brewed with no less than three types of roasted malts. The result is a complex ale with a pleasant malt sweetness and notes of smoke and chocolate. McWilder is brewed by Nick Wilder who has been trained in the art of brewing in both USA and Germany.
McWilder is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

A slightly hazy deep red beer with a huge brown head. The aroma is sweet and quite fruity - like fruit stored in a wooden barrel for a long time, as well as a very faint hint of smoke. The flavor is sweet but with a sour back ground - I think the sourness stems from the malt, with strong notes of straw, but also prunes, wood, caramel, and a somewhat weird herbal note. The aftertaste reveals a faint hint of smoke, but then the weird herbal note comes back at You. I find it going in too many directions at once. It definately gets better, if it is enjoyed together with single malt whiskey as is recommended on the label - but that doesn’t make the beer better - it just over powers the weird herbal notes.

(Bottle 50 cl) Dark brown with an orangey glow and a creamy, beige head leaving some laces. Roasted, vaguely burned nose. Medium body with loads of roasted malt - surprisingly sweet roasted malt - nicely balanced by some lightly burned, coffeeish notes. Short, dry finish with the malt managing to leave some stout-like bitterness. Quite yummy actually. 250105

Bottled. Hazy copper brown colour with small off-white head. Aroma of fruits, raisins and malt. Flavour is raisins, caramel and roasted malt. The roasted malt stays a while in aftertaste. Kind of sweet notes too. Wellbalanced. Coffee stays long in aftertaste. Nice brew. So far Ølfabrikken has impressed me.

[Bottled] (BB 06/2006). Almost opaque muddy brown, small but firm tan head. Roasted malty, tobacco nose. Chocolaty, roasted, not very sweet, lots of tobacco. And certainly not very "Scottish Ale".

Murky deep amber beer with a small tan head. Light roasted malty aroma with a coffee bitterness and a light cabbage note. Malty flavor with a light burnt edge and hints of fruit and nuts. Dry bitter finish.

Hazy chestnut brown; small yellowish head. Scorched peanuts, toast, Dutch peanut-covered cookies, Café Noir in the nose. Smoked taste, both coffee and cigar ash. Sweet, and roasted bitterness. Bit thinnish MF, not at all Porter - more like a British mild on draught. Poor mashing? Not bad, but thinnish for its style.
Thanks to the Danish mob!
