Commercial Description:
An Ølfabrikken guest brew. For the second time we have invited one of our colleagues to come by and do any brew he or she would like.
ØLFABRIKKEN MCWILDER is a Scottish ale brewed with no less than three types of roasted malts. The result is a complex ale with a pleasant malt sweetness and notes of smoke and chocolate. McWilder is brewed by Nick Wilder who has been trained in the art of brewing in both USA and Germany.
McWilder is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Bottle, at ZBF 2006, courtesy of the Danes. Hazy bronze, good pale yellow head and moderate condition. Chocolate powder, roasted barley and figs in the nose, big roasted dry mouthfull with hints of chocolate and delicate earthiness balanced with a gentle fruity tartness, lingering chocolate and roast barley in the finish.

Maybe there where another beer in the bottle of Macwilder I just finished, I totally disagree with everybody else who tasted this beer. My Macwilder had a big and complex nose first of chocolate, then dry notes of cacao and coffee, spicy hoppy notes are to be found as well; The body was big, soft with medium full bitter freshness; The finish was long and soft with a little bitterness to it, again clear notes of chocolate, with dry, bitter coffee in the late finish. I am not very experienced in Scottish ale, so this might not be a typical one. But even the last drop which I just licked out of my glass was part of a very good beer though. By the way; The best beer I have had from Ølfabrikken yet!

Warm and hazy deep brown beer with a small beige head. Interesting nutty nose with a good floral and sweet herby caracter. Taste is delicate and quit elegant for the style. It is malty, smooth bitter, slight burned, honeyed and has an explosion of wild flowers. Afthertaste is interesting and ends with a longlasting flowery bitterness. Not a heavey one but a fine and elegant Scotch ale.

Bottle at ZBF courtesy of Martin, Martin, and Jacob. Brown bodied. Small tanned head. Nose is delicious! Smoky, peaty notes, light dried fruit aromas, roasted malts, and a some choco notes. Taste expands on the aroma a bit. Nice blend of the smoky/peaty flavors, with a touch of cocoa, light chocolate, roasty malts, and pleasant fruit flavors. Body is medium with a light carbonation feel. Finishes with a better maltiness, more peaty flavors, light cocoa, and fruits. I liked this!

Bottle (ZBF06): Brown with a beige head. Choc and roast in the nose, with some grassy hop notes. Malty, choc flavour with spicy hop finish. Almost a little smoke in there. Tasty.

Bottled. Hazy copper brown colour with small off-white head. Aroma of fruits, raisins and malt. Flavour is raisins, caramel and roasted malt. The roasted malt stays a while in aftertaste. Kind of sweet notes too. Wellbalanced. Coffee stays long in aftertaste. Nice brew. So far Ølfabrikken has impressed me.

Bottled. Deep amber coloured. Hazy. Small brownish dense head. Smoky, fruity and somewhat roasty nose. Flavour is smoked, has light chocolatenotes, a bit fruity and has a ligth sour note. Is quite light bodied, but not thin. Has a vague bitterness in the end. Definately not the most interesting beer from Ølfabrikken, but I still find some qualities.
