egajdzis (3602), Spring Mount, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 2, 2009 Poured a dark brown color with a small, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of smoked meat, burnt wood, oxidation, sherry, dark fruits, roast, and cocoa. Taste was also roasty, chocolaty, smokey, woody, fruity, and somewhat old. Thinner mouthfeel. Thanks to Joe for sharing. puzzl (2579), New York, New York, USA Mar 30, 2009 Bottle via my Secret Santa. An exciting beer to get to try, especially as I didn’t realize it was a smoked before opening it and taking a whiff. Very hammy, meaty, briney, like a good Islay scotch, complete with seaweed and earthy notes. Clearly a lot of peat in here, though unlike many American counterparts it is working very well. Sweet peat flavor with a surprisingly light body and a beautiful, spicy kick from the rye right at the finish. Excellent! JMFG (1514), Florida, USA Sep 3, 2008 Courtesy TheCheeseMan. Near black chestnut brown color, a little bit of white head present. Super smoky aroma, slightly meaty, but a lot of char also. Smooth roasty start, a ton of smoke, evens out on the dry finish. A very nice smoked. SoLan (1369), Orlando, Florida, USA Aug 24, 2008 Courtesy ChzMan. Dark brown with a bit of tan foam. Huge smoke in the aroma- full spectrum- savory to acrid, some faint malt in there, also. Flavor adds some bittersweet chocolate maltiness to the same intense smoke. Medium body, just smoother than balanced, easy drinking. Solid. TheCheeseMan (538), Saint Cloud, Florida, USA Aug 24, 2008 Courtesy Papsoe, thanks again. Pours a charred, deep chestnut brown. Aroma is intense, with the smoke leading the charge. There are some nice roasted notes, along with some chocolate. The flavor is brutishly smoked, but oddly enough, not over the top. Excellent beer. bierkoning (5989), La Tropica, Netherlands Aug 17, 2008 Swing top bottle from thewolf, thanks! Almost black colored. Beechwood smoke aroma with pineapple. Malty, sweetish flavor with licorice and beechwood smoke. Some dark chocolate. Rich, smoky brew. Tasty, interesting and satisfyingly balanced.
