Commercial Description:
Ølfabrikken Gammel Ekstra Porter (Old Extra Porter) is an attempt to recreate a porter as it used to taste in its heyday. This beer starts with a pitch black wort which is boiled for 14 hours. This is necessary to obtain the slightly acidic flavor of burned sugar characteristic for the way these beers were produced. Aged 6 months before release. Only 360 bottles released. Of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Bottle. Black, with slight brown edges. This was a little more intense/stronger than the regular porter as i expected it would be. This also had more tarry vegemite/marmite characters. Lots of licorice, roasted malt, chocolate and dark fruit, finish is very long and roasty. Yes, a little more intense than the regualr, but i still like it about the same as the regular, this is very nice.

Bottled at RBESG-06, GTN. Black, with some brown bubbles on top. Rounded flavor with mocha, coffee and cocoa. Alcohol, molasses, coffee, cocoa, fruityness and hops in the flavor. Dusty, drying mouthfeel. The finish is really coffee-bitter, with some alcohol and quite hoppy. A real taste-bomb, maybe a bit too much, but definately good. (060826)

500 ml bottle thanks to bager. Pitch black pour with very little head. Aromas are dark fruit and chocolate. Some Cherry notes too. Flavors are amazing. More dark and dried fruit. Sour Cherry just a touch. Subtle hop citrusiness that increaces in the aftertaste. Amazing beer. Thanks a million, Lars.

Bottle... This beer rocks!... Pitch black ale (used motor oily consistency) with a small, creamy, light brown head. The nose is a current of dark chocolate, black cherries, burnt caramel, tobacco and espresso with a whisper of wood. Sweet flavor up front, but then burnt and bitter with chunks of bittersweet chocolate and gobs of singed caramel. Full-bodied and syrupy with mild carbonation. Finishes sweet, then seared. World class brew! Big thanks to marsiblursi for the bottle!

Black ale with a rather short beige head. Good carbonation. Rich aroma with lots of coffee, Roasted malts, licorice and even notes of chocolate. Very complex, powerfull aroma: Coffee, Roasted malts, licorice with and underlying malty sweetness. Notes of chocolate? Lingers on to a long and very lasting finish dominated by burned wood (tar...) and traces of hops. Sugar sticky palate. This is a very extreme beer, probably to extreme to drink by the pint. Still, very impressive.
