Commercial Description:
Ølfabrikken Gammel Ekstra Porter (Old Extra Porter) is an attempt to recreate a porter as it used to taste in its heyday. This beer starts with a pitch black wort which is boiled for 14 hours. This is necessary to obtain the slightly acidic flavor of burned sugar characteristic for the way these beers were produced. Aged 6 months before release. Only 360 bottles released. Of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

50cl, many thanks to hopscotch! Inky, pitch-black appearance; big-bubble line around the edges; nice lacing. Raisins, dark chocolate, coffee, in a huge, layered nose; could sniff this all evening. Huge, viscous mouthfeel, vanilla roundness, marshmallow, huge amounts of coffee; dark chocolate in a long, bitter finish. So many things to enjoy about this beer.

Pretty powerful aroma with chocolate and especially (english) liquorice. The taste is incredibly liqourice-like even though it has also a taste from strong coffee. Creamy good body. Sweeter aftertaste with liquorice and bitter hops. Incredible beer - it is a must try! Unfortunately the beer was rationised with only two bottles per person in the store where I bought it, caused by the fact that only 360 bottles is made.

[Bottled, thanks Ungstrup!] Very black, near no head. Loads of burnt malt up front. Fairly sweet with massive flavour of coffee and licorice. Very malty and rich with heavy, oily mouthfeel. Notes of burnt rye bread and tar. Shock and awe beer, but not out of balance. Ekstra indeed!

Bottled. Dark brown colour, small brown head. Aroma is roasted and sweetish malts. Flavour is strong roast, alcohol and some slight acidic fruityness. Dry fruits in aftertasted. A rather twisted Porter, but I still like it.
