Aroma of oxidation, roast, chocolate, dark fruits, nuts, and some wood. Taste of roast, smoke, soy, more bitter nuts, chocolate, and light alcohol. A bit thin, possibly due to the aging. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jan 14, 2008 From a 500mL Bottle. Generously shared by cquiroga. Pitch black, opaque pour with only a wispy trace of tannish head. Rich, powerful aroma of charred prunes and gobs of other dark fruit, mostly raisin and plum. A hint of meaty smoke wafts from the background, along with some molasses sugars. Medium bodied, nearly still carbonation. Flavors of white chocolate and caramel melanoidins appear first on the palate, followed closely by notes of molasses and a darker, bourbony chocolate. A silky smooth pumpernickel bread malt body is seasoned by some black licorice stick. There’s almost a hint of saltiness in there too, leaving the impression of a freshly baked pretzel. A soft, refined roast/coffee character also comes out near the finish. The decadent, complex, condensed flavors linger on pleasantly in the final smack. Simply amazing porter. Thanks for sharing, Chris! yespr (12429), Copenhagen O, Denmark

Pours a deep, opaque black with scarcely any head at all. Gargantuan, head-filling nose of licorice, chocolate, plums, cherries, roast, and other miscellaneous goodness. Astonishing. Attack is bold: thick body, oily, velvety. Light carb. Quite still, in fact. Very forward flavors. VERY forward. Roasty, chocolatey, dark tree fruit. Lovely. Nearly indescribable. It really doesn’t get too much better than this. Thank you so much, Maria.
