Commercial Description:
Ølfabrikken Gammel Ekstra Porter (Old Extra Porter) is an attempt to recreate a porter as it used to taste in its heyday. This beer starts with a pitch black wort which is boiled for 14 hours. This is necessary to obtain the slightly acidic flavor of burned sugar characteristic for the way these beers were produced. Aged 6 months before release. Only 360 bottles released. Of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Bottle [thanks sk8viking!]. Pours almost pitch-black with only a thin layer of yellowish brown head. Extreme coffee, vinious and dark caramel aroma. Very low carbonation and extremely oily (I almost can’t find any bubbles at all!). Loads and loads of malts in the flavours. Caramel, liqourice, roasted and coffee. The liqourice sticks out, blending a distant hoppyness with a vinious edge towards the end. It is a very extreme, very sweet brew - too sweet for my liking. I can understand why it is so highly rated though - a competent brew with a ton of complexity. I still think the coffeeporter (kaffeporter) is better though.

Swing top bottle, slight gas escape with opening. Pour was oily and slick, nose was sweet-sour coffee, alcohol, and medicine. Small tight tan head. Lots of caramelized malts in this, and tons of licorice, like drinking liquid black licorice. There is an immediate warming as this hits the belly. There is a thick sludge like lacing, this is one big heavy beer. Thanks to kramer17801 , mystery 2.0. Damn nice brew here.

(Bottle) Sampled with Oakes. Thin, beige head settles to the edges atop an opaque body. Huge legs for a porter. Nose of fresh figs, high ABV, nail polish, coffee. Chocolate cake melds with coffee icing. Not very sweet somewhat bitter with a more cocoa espresso ground finish. Molasses, burnt sugar. Great complexity here!

Inky dark brown. Not much visible carbo, nor head. Swirl it around and it sticks to the glass. Intense charred wood, plum, port, molasses with lighter nuances of chocolate. There is a lot going on here. Superroasted molasses taste. Very viscous body, sweet and a little bit oily. No shortage of woody bitterness either, but it’s a rather abrasive counter to ultra dense malts. Not complementary. One of the biggest beers I’ve had...and only 8.5%. The glass is stained, I think permanently.

500 ml bottle, via henrikb and Storm. Pours an extremely dark black body under a small tight bubbled espresso crema like head that receded to a thin ring. Very Imperial Stout looking really. Aroma is thick with chocolate and roast with a light chalkiness, some alcohol, light soy, dark ripe fruit, and light yeast. Flavor is a little over roasted, bordering on burnt with a slight ashiness. There’s plenty of chocolate too, fading to a yeasty, chalky, and moderately alcoholic finish. Some tar and lots of espresso also. Mouthfeel is full bodied and oily in texture with very light and very fine carbonation. Very mouthcoating finish that was extremely long lingering. This was really pretty good once I got used to the heavy roast and burnt malt astringency.

Bottle given to me by the one and only Christian at Olbaren. Thanks a lot, I was really thrilled to secure this bottle. Drinking out of my Olfabrikken liquid holder, it appears black in the glass with a super dark brown head. Not the most expressive nose, just light hints of malty goodness. Impressive viscosity in the mouth feel. Lovely flavor of burnt malts and an astounding flavor of various chocolates. Not the greatest of Christian’s creations, but still a mighty fine brew.

Completely pitch black with a small nougat colored head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt, plum, raisin, soy sauce and the hard English licorice from the chemistry. The mouthfeel is extremely fat and oily. The flavour has roasted malt, soy sauce, a bit of salt, chocolate, licorice, caramel, raisin and a vinous touch. My thoughts are lead towards the Harvey Imperial Stout, even if that is much more extreme (but I think it’s time for me to sample that one again). Anyhow, I really like this one, it’s very nice and yet very different from the porters brewed today. Thanks René/Sk8viking for this nice beer! 1937

Bottle. Pours a pitch black color with almost no head. Fruity vinous malty aroma with hints of caramel and dark fruits. Dry roasted thick malty chocolate flavor with some vinous hints and hints of dark fruits. Long thick malty finish with a nice bitterness in the aftertaste.
