Commercial Description:
Ølfabrikken Gammel Ekstra Porter (Old Extra Porter) is an attempt to recreate a porter as it used to taste in its heyday. This beer starts with a pitch black wort which is boiled for 14 hours. This is necessary to obtain the slightly acidic flavor of burned sugar characteristic for the way these beers were produced. Aged 6 months before release. Only 360 bottles released. Of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Bottle thanx to Jannik. Black colour with a small brown head. Roasted, dark fruits, chocolate, coffee aroma and taste, light hoppy. Medium to full body with a dry, fruity finish. Great! 9-4-9-5-18 Re-rate, the more I drink it the more I like it! 9-4-10-5-19

500 ml bottle thanks to bager. Pitch black pour with very little head. Aromas are dark fruit and chocolate. Some Cherry notes too. Flavors are amazing. More dark and dried fruit. Sour Cherry just a touch. Subtle hop citrusiness that increaces in the aftertaste. Amazing beer. Thanks a million, Lars.

Bottle from Madsberg: Oily black pour with virtually no head. Aroma, a light roastiness and some coffee. Flavor, roasty malts, coffee, chocolate. Very viscous mouthfeel, incredibly smooth. This beer is excellent.

Sweet label. I smell cherry wood at first. The nose is complex, with light tar, berries, scotch barrel, port wine, hops from eastern Europe. Also notes of chocolate, chocolate malts, cherries, figs and light roastiness. Rousing the head with a little swirl lets forth a light and pleasantly blended alcohol and tobacco aroma, somebody call the ATF. The flavor! Huge blueberries, lesser cherries, light alcoholic bite. The berry taste is monstrous, and oh so wonderful, it takes me a while to move past it. Just an intoxicatingly delicious beer. Big medium-sweet chocolates find their way into the mix. The palate is perfectly laid out before me, never too sweet or dry, full bodied and luscious. Finishes with mild roasted malt and lingering blueberry pancake batter. Awesome. I need a keg of this, pronto.

Rerate: Flavor couldn’t satisfy my palate any further. 3rd time is a charm.

Bottle. Very small but good looking dark brown head. I have earlier described a body as pitch black. This is certainly the case here. No light coming through. Spicy coffee aroma. Soft and smooth mouthfeel. Heavy coffee hops flavor. I love it.

[Bottled, thanks Ungstrup!] Very black, near no head. Loads of burnt malt up front. Fairly sweet with massive flavour of coffee and licorice. Very malty and rich with heavy, oily mouthfeel. Notes of burnt rye bread and tar. Shock and awe beer, but not out of balance. Ekstra indeed!

Bottled. Pitch black coloured. Dense brown head in the right shape and size (IMO). Brown sugar, chcocolate, liqourice, raisins and dades in the nose. Flavour is fantastic . Loads of liqourice, roast, herbs and chocolate. Some vague coffee notes. Loads of raisins and plums here as well. Full bodied. Quite dry and roasted bitter end. This is another very good porter from Ølfabrikken. Not that it matters much, but this is my danish beer no. 700.
