Commercial Description:
A dark and refreshing ale belonging to the family of "farmhouse ales" which used to refresh and strengthen the farm-workers all over Europe after a hard day in the fields. This is a darker winter-type which has the alcohol strength to make it suitable for celebration as well. Dark almost black in color, but not burned or roasted. With lively carbonation and a creamy café au lait colored head, this beer presents itself well in the glass. The hops provides the beer with refreshing dryness and bitterness. Whole hop flowers added during maturation maintains the freshness. A little bit of roasted malt gives notes of coffee and cocoa without leaving a burned flavor. Mixed fermentation with a Belgian and a neutral American yeast provides a complex profile with nuances of cherries and and honey without excessive fruitiness which could interfere with the hoppiness. Ølfabrikken Gårdbryg is, of course, unpasteurized, unfiltered and bottle conditioned like all of our beers.

Some sort of hazy and dark ruby colour, with a beautiful tan head, that is quite bubbly. Quite complex aroma: first impression is fruits, peach, citrus, plum and apple. Then comes caramel and molasses. And then some wood and a hint of port. Flavour is very dry, but fruity, again with some wood. It’s a great beer, but did farmhouse brewers really work with such complexity? The mix of malts, mixed fermentation and dry hopping?

Bottle. Dark brown coloured with a huge beige head. Light roasted aroma of fruits with notes of coffee and hops. Roasted flavour of fruits, dried fruits, coffee, cocoa, hops and yeast. Yeasty, roasted and hoppy finish.

500 ml bottle with a porselain ’swing’ capsel. Like a gunshot when opening it! Biggish fluffy and lightly tanned head over muddy brown, noisy carbonatied body. Weak but pleasant aromas of toasted malts, ripe berries and dry dusty and grassy hops. Fairly sweet dark malts, light caramel, and acidulous fruits and berries in the flavors. Moderate but evident and sharp hopbitterness. Good body. Rustic and challenging, but nice, very nice.

Rating 600: Hazy unclear dark brown with fine thick creamy head. Good lacings. A million top dollar hop aroma, powerfull - american style. Filling body. Very well balanced - ok malty caramel and again wonderfull cascade, flowery & fruity hop taste. Perhaps one dimensional but very nice!

[Present from Vignoble.] Exploding opening and the brew entered the glass with an enormeus head of off-white colour and a darkbrown hazy look. Aroma of fantastic notes entered my nose. Flowers, hops, sweetness. Could be an IPA instead, summer freshness, thirstquencer, fruits, caramel and only a little spicy yeast. A wellbalanced beer is it and it means that the flavor is similar continuing in a flowerhoppy finish. A beer with a high drinkability. Welldone!!

Muddy brown colour with a dense tan head. Light roasted malty aroma, light coffee and chocolate notes and hints of some fruity sweetness and hops. Hoppy bitter flavor with a roasted malty note and a delicate fruity sweetness. Balanced light dry and fruity sweet finish. Good one.

Bottled. Dark reddish brown coloured. Fluffy brown head. Caramel, fruits, light spice, light herbs and liqourice in the aroma. Flavour is herbal, spiced and full of caramel. Very intriguing. Is medium bodied and quite dry. Quite complex and in good balance. Is light bitter in the end.
