When I woke up the next day, my last 3 ratings didn’t have a note about which beers it was that I had rated. I remembered the first one, but of the 2 last ones I just know that one of them was Highland Easter, but not which one, and I have no idea what the other one was. Damn. Here are both ratings, one of them for Highland Easter (I’ve entered the highest score to be nice).

Bottle. Pours a hazy reddish-brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is an orgy of sweet fruits, malt fresh hops and plums. Has a metallic overtone and remote notes of sherry. Flavour is malty with an alcohol presence. Also fruits and hops, in a nice blend; neither stand out but both can be felt. Malty, fruity and alcohol finish. A quite good beer. 18-01-09.

Bottle. Pours black with a dense light brown head. Roasted chocolate aroma. Nice but a bit cloying. Flavour is roasted and malty – not much else to say really. Dry finish with coffee notes. Faint apple notes lingering. Feels nice and smooth and has all the right things, but somehow it still just feels plain (and cloying) overall. 18-01-09. TaxiDriver (948), Stadland, Germany
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jan 3, 2009 Bottle. Strong aroma of coffee, a little bit mocha, light sweet liquor. The head is small, foamy and light brown, fast disappearing. The body is black. A bitter start and finish, roasted malt, tasted a little bit like coffee. A long duration. The body is creamy-oily and heavy without much carbonation. Borup (1360), Albertslund, Denmark

| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 4, 2008 A Mes rate: Bottle supped in the Harlequin in Sheffield thanks as so many good beers are, to Jan and Charlotte. Almost black with a good tan head. It’s clear from my first sniff that this is underrated. A very Scottish smoky malt nose with hints of rubber and faint whiffs of alcohol. The flavour is excellent. Smoke, peat and some lovely earthy malt. Very rubbery, wonderfully dry and laden with burnt toast. This is pretty much a traditional UK style stout. In a blind tasting there is no way I would pick this out as being Danish. Creamy yet dry mouthfeel with perfect carbonation round off a glorious performance. Maybe I was swept away in the moment but I think this is a cracker. hughie (3087), Bedford, Bedfordshire, England
