Commercial Description:
Editor’s note: Recent canned batches of this have been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Harboe.
The first batch of this beer destined for export to the US market was brewed at Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway in 2006. Later batches have been brewed at Ølfabrikken.
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar. Unpasteurized and unfiltered like all our beers of course.

20-DEC-2009, can @home. Second rating of this. I have had many of these cans since my first rating, and I can see that I was not giving it full justice. I have just had Hornbeer, Black Magic Woman, and this just falls short of it, but still awonderfull beer. Pitch black wity brown/yellow huge head. Very roasted, and also somewhat sweet nose. Quite bitter hoppy ending, very creamy, sweet, and very tasty... First rating, 10-APR-2009, can @home. Rating 6+4+7+4+16=37. This is a good porter. I really prefer stout, but this one is good. Very bitter, and quite oily. And then the price!!! 69 DKK for 24 cans!

22 oz bottle. Nose is rich dark chocolate and nicely roasted malts. Good coffee grind notes as well. Pours a coffee brown with a large dense deep tan head. Flavors are fairly complex deeply roasted to burnt malt and barley. Small coffee notes at times. Smokey at times, almost too much. Mouth is full. There is a small amount of alcohol presence at times. Finishes long and sticky. A great malt complex in this brew.

This is actually a Baltic porter according to the label. This is powerful stuff. I had this after a long day of yardwork in the hot sun, thinking a porter wouldn’t be too hard on my palate. I was wrong. The aroma is of wood, chocolate, molasses, syrup, prunes, dates, fig. It pours very dark brown with a dark brown head. Sweet, slightly alchoholic flavor of burnt sugar, chocolate, dark fruit, and roasted malt. Very creamy mouthfeel. Tastes potent and concentrated. Very heavy like an impy stout. It has a woody bitter finish. A very flavorful and complex beer that pushes the envelope for the style.

A: This baby is black, very dark black with a nice dark brown head. Everything is dark about this beer. It is also a very sticky beer. The head clings to the glass like glue leaving behind some of the loveliest lacing I have ever seen. S: It has the aroma of sweetened coffee, dark chocolate, and a nice smokiness that would almost lead me to believe this one had been oaked. T: It this is a porter it’s a very STOUT one. It has very bold flavoring. Strong malts bring out the taste of bitter coffee, dark chocolate, and anise. The malt seems to be evened out though by a wonderful creaminess and a slight sting of booze. M: This beer is medium bodied with the perfect amount of bubbles. It is very smooth and creamy. Goes down great, it’s a really nice drinker. D: Good, nice and tasty.
