This was one of the best porters I have ever drank. Highly recommend. HOPSHUNTER (376), Tampa, Florida, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 19/20 | Mar 14, 2009 Bottle. Hands down the best porter I’ve tried so far. Poured solid black with a thick medium brown head, beautiful lacing. Aroma is of roasted almost burnt malt, caramel, and alcohol. Flavor is complex, big malt, coffee, chocolate, wood, slight smoke, delicious. Superior porter! CaryTheDude (1113), Longmont, Colorado, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 12, 2009 Crushed with Jakebra. Damn. Creamy, chocolatey coffee straight up. Not exactly knock-you-on-your ass robust, but it’s so silky smooth, and the flavors blend so beautifully. A little woody smokiness in the finish makes it last for a long time. Need to have this in a blind tasting with Founder’s Porter and see what happens. Outstanding porter. JaBier (1233), Capital City, Ohio, USA

Chocolate malt aroma with a roasty and creamy coffee character. Malty and creamy chocolate flavor with a smoky coffee finish. Excellent porter. DYCSoccer17 (2192), Davis, California, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Mar 7, 2009 22 ounce bottle purchased at Monument Liquors. Aroma is roasty, coffee-like, with some chocolate. Lightly vinous and a smidge of anise. Very quaffable. Opaque black body with a brown head that has a touch of pink. It recedes a little fast, but leaves great lacing. Sweet start with cocoa flavors. Becomes toasted and then it has a little astringency in the middle. Finishes very roasted, burnt, and coffee-like. There is a bit of chalkiness present as well. Solid, and worthy of the acclaim. Lubiere (4536), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Mar 5, 2009 Deep dark porter with a thick dark moka head. A nice funky aroma of chocolate, cold coffee, and cast iron post. In mouth, a bitter herbal chocolate, very intense, with light peated notes, cold coffee. Rich and enticing. A superb porter. | 5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 10/10 | 5/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 20/20 | Feb 27, 2009 Aroma is rich, smoky, with a strong coffee-ish undertone and a firm hint of unsweetened chocolate - the sort of aroma I expect from a good porter. It pours a rich, opaque black - not sable, but solid black - with a thick, frothy tan head. Strong, satisfying flavor lives up to the promise of the aroma and appearance, being strongly smoky with tones of rich roasted coffee, unsweetened chocolate, and burnt caramel, with nutty and butterscotch hints. Texture is satisfyingly smooth and thick, leaving a smoky aftertaste that has touches of both hoppy bitterness and honey sweetness. I know ratings of all 5’s are supposed to be rare, but this beer deserves a perfect rating!
