Commercial Description:
Editor’s note: Recent canned batches of this have been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Harboe.
The first batch of this beer destined for export to the US market was brewed at Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway in 2006. Later batches have been brewed at Ølfabrikken.
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar. Unpasteurized and unfiltered like all our beers of course.

Pours black with a dark brown head. Aroma is sweet coffee with some chocolate malt. The flavor starts with a quick sweetness and moves to a delicious roasted malt. Great creamy mouthfeel. I just keep wanting to drink more and more. What a fantastic beer.

Big thanks for dchmela for this tasty treat!!! Pours jet black with a tan head. Strong aroma of coffee, roast, and chocolate. Taste of chocolate and burnt sugar with some dark fruit notes, moving through a warming alcohol to a lastic coffee bitter. Thick mouthfeel. Excellent beer. Almost indistinguishable from an Imperial stout.

Pours an almost black brown with a medium light brown head. Aroma is of sweet, slightly roasted caramel malts and maybe a little espresso and port wine. Body is ultra smooth, especially for a porter. Slightly sweet port wine flavor in the beginning with a creamy texture and a nice roasted finish that’s slightly oily and coffee flavored.

Bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of chocolate and espresso. Flavor is similiar with the addition of a roasted malt. Subtle complexity, full mouthfeel. Good porter.

Bottle: pours a thick, dark black with a thin, tan head, chocolate and roasted malt aroma, taste is chocolately but not overly sweet, has a bit of bitter backbone to it, leaves a malty aftertaste, this is some good stuff.

This tasted more like a stout than what I expect from a porter, I now consider them to be the same thing...this tasted of a strong dark chocolate and dark roast coffee...not so sweet and slightly bitter. Not bad, but didn’t live up to the hype for me.

Bottle. Pours black with a brown head. Aroma of roasted malt and dark chocolate. Full and very smooth body. Flavor starts on roasted malt and coffee beans, moves to a more woody and lightly smoked note, and finishes with a subtle sweetness of chocolate and caramel that lies underneath throughout. Very tasty and drinkable. The best I’ve had so far. (rating number 250)

Bottle courtesy of kmweaver. It pours black with a creamy, chocolate milk brown head. The aroma is of chocolate cake and unsalted soda crackers, fairly simple, but quite pleasant. Full-bodied (odd for a porter) and slick with very little carbonation until the swallow, when you get some fine yet assertive bubbles across the tongue. It finishes roasty and lightly bitter in the aftertaste. Dark roasted malt, coffee and dark chocolate--Nice. While I was expecting a bit more complexity from this one, it is certainly a very good beer. Well constructed and quite deserving of its reputation, if they ever expand the distribution of this beer to KC, I’ll purchase it regularly. Thanks again for sending it, Ken!
