The beer pours a viscous black color with a thin dark tan head that has good staying power. Thin sheet of lacing on the glass. Complex aroma of roasted malt, coffee and sweet chocolate. Rich body with a pleasing array of flavors from cocoa, coffee and chocolate to hops, berries and mild tobacco. The finish is full and satisfying with bittersweet chocolate and coffee lingering in the aftertaste. This beer walks a fine line to being an Imperial Stout and a pretty good one at that. Overall it is one of the better Porters I have had in quite some time. LilBeerDoctor (1547), East Setauket, New York, USA

Poured a beautiful dark brown with a thick, dark tan creamy looking head. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, roast, and dark fruits. Initial taste was of dark fruits (raisin, prune, fig) with a mild roasty finish. A different porter than others that I’ve had, but this one was very good. An excellent beer, make sure you have it now before the new ownership changes it.
Update 4/27/08: Huge coffee presence in this bottle, which I didn’t get before. I think this bottle was fresher than the one I had previously. 17thfloor (1514), Chicago, Illinois, USA

Can smell this a mile away, smoke, vanilla, deep roasted malts, wet plywood. Gritty! ...like ground up coffee beans. Really quite dry. So often with thick high gravity/abv porters/stouts they are sickeningly sweet, but this is wonderfully drinkable. This lived up to expectations. This stuff is dirty, crunchy and really fun. The deepest of roasted malts. Lots of semi-sweet cocoa. dm9831 (1168), Monee, Illinois, USA

Delicious, rich chocolate aroma with some coffee. Complex flavor profile that starts with sweet chocolate, then roasted malts, then smoke, and finishing with coffee. Earthy, dark roasted coffee finish/aftertaste. Solid, smooth, medium to heavy mouthfeel. MuertosPorter (28), California, USA

Permeating aromas of V.S.O.P. brandy, baking chocolate, and Guatemalan coffee. Creamy smoothness. Perfect amount of carbonation on the palate. Very rich pronounced flavors. Dark chocolate, fine muscat wine, black walnuts, small touch of ginger, black treacle, dried mission figs. Ultra rich, luxurious and thoroughly satisfying. Outstanding!

I get some charcol flavors as well. Flavors are well balanced with coffee and chocolate. I get some dark fruit going down with a somewhat dry finish. Very enjoyable for the colder season.
