Commercial Description:
Editor’s note: Recent canned batches of this have been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Harboe.
The first batch of this beer destined for export to the US market was brewed at Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway in 2006. Later batches have been brewed at Ølfabrikken.
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar. Unpasteurized and unfiltered like all our beers of course.

Definitely the deepest, darkest, richest, and creamiest porter I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing. This brew is the color of motor oil with a cap of caramel floating on top. Aroma and flavor are one-in-the-same: bitter chocolate, roasted coffee, vanilla, oak, and toffee. It’s thick and hangs on the palate. Great beer!!!

Bottle. Pours opaque black with thin beige head, lacing. Aroma is nutty, hints of roasting coffee, deeper notes of hearty bread. Flavor is roasted nuts, milk chocolate, butter, a touch of vanilla, light bitterness, smokiness, raw flavors - tobacco, leather. Followed up by lingering mocha coffee flavors, mild herb flavors, strong bitterness and a tiny bit of alcohol burn. Palate is incredibly full, lots of textured grain- a joy! Challenging and powerful.

22oz. Bottle: Smells of roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, and cream. Poured black in color with a large foamy brown head that lasted throughout. Opaque. Excellent lacing. Medium sweet, medium bitter flavor. Tastes of roasted malts, chocolate, cream, coffee, sugar, and alcohol. Medium to full body. Dry texture. Soft carbonation. Malty, chocolate, cream finish.

Pours pitch black like molasses. Even on the way out of the bottle it seems to come slow and thicker. Dark tan head slowly forms well after the pouring is done. The bubbles take time to form and then take even more time getting to the top of the liquid to form head. Nose is slight dust, tar, and molasses. Just slight amounts though. Flavor is massive malts with a very slight chocolate influence. Thick, strong, but smooth. Break out the knife and fork, baby. Feel is very thick liquid, but still holds a bit of a not so syrup like feel. The carbonation is actually a bit higher than one might expect, well higher than I did. But still it seems a bit restricted, as if there is so much going on that it just can’t be stronger than those dominating features. This is a heavy hitter. Something to take a swig of and ponder. Come with respect to this one, or don’t bother coming at all.

500 ml bottle an opaque brownish black with a small lingering brown head. Aromas of coffee, bitter chocolate, light licorice, light vanilla and a hint of dark fruit. Palate was medium to full bodied and smooth. Flavors of bitter chocolate, coffee, roastiness, light licorice and a faint hint of dark fruit with a smooth lingering roasty bitter finish.
A very tasty porter!

Bottled. At Haket, Göteborg. Very dark brown colour with pale brown head, that’s of average size. Hops and a mellow maltiness at first with darker flavours such as tar and licorice. No chocolate here. Body is rounded, with a nice mellow maltiness with residual sugars that might be a bit hard to track down because of the hop additions. Not very pronounced bitterness. Great beer!
