Commercial Description:
Editor’s note: Recent canned batches of this have been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Harboe.
The first batch of this beer destined for export to the US market was brewed at Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway in 2006. Later batches have been brewed at Ølfabrikken.
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar. Unpasteurized and unfiltered like all our beers of course.

Pours black with a creamy brown head. Moderate carbonation. This is a strong, dark, and complex beer that has much in common with an imperial stout. Aromas of chocolate, coffee, and strong alcohol. Moderately sweet with roasted malt flavors, coffee, and milk chocolate. Strong alcohol flavor is pleasant and warming. Only mild bitterness. Consistent and perfectly balanced. Silky, full mouthfeel. Don’t serve overly chilled or miss out on much of the flavor.

Pours like motor oil. Rich complexity of roastiness, nuts, coffee and fruit. Nice tan thick head with great lacing. Alcohol is noticable on nose and is a bit hot in the finish. The alchol is listed as 8% but it seems like it might be a bit higher. A wonderful Baltic Porter that I’ll seek out again.

500ml bottle from Holiday Wine. This concoction pours a murky dense deep black color. The head is brown and slowly fades to about 1/4 inch over five minutes. The aroma is pungent with many intense complex flavors assailing the nostrils; I detect anise, coffee, dried plums, rye, soy and molasses. The aroma positively leaves you drooling and anticipating that first sip. And, that first sip does not disappoint. The coffee flavors lead the charge across the palate: There is mocha, sweetened Sumatra coffee and biter espresso. Filling in the sides are the fruits--raisin, plums and dates. In the back end there is an earthy note. The mouthfeel is smooth and creamy, the carbonation is light but effective. The finish is long and glorious with oodles of bittersweet chocolate. Overall: Wow--porter just doesn’t get much better than this. Recommended

Comments: Nowhere aggressive, yet remarkably deep fruitiness. To me, this is as complex as almost any imperial stouts out there. Just slightly warming with its alcohol potency. Fantastic beer.

Duane shared a bottle of this with me. Thanks!!! This is what a porter is all about! Black as night pour with a light brown head. Dark sun-dried fruit, roasted cofee, and sweet molasses aromas. Roasty and chocolatey flavor, just a bit of bitterness lingering around, medium-full mouthfeel. Quite a tasty porter!

Bottle, Swing Top. Dark brown almost black color with a light brown head. Complex aroma of roasted malt, dark fruit/berries, coffee, brown sugar, chocolate, portwine and some light smoke. Complex and rich, but balanced taste. Notes of sweet and roasted malt, caramel, dried fruit, coffee, chocolate, liqourice, portwine, light ashes and medium bitterness. Full bodied with creamy moutfeel. One of the best that I have tried so far.

Bottle (50 cl) from Ølbutikken, Copenhagen, Denmark. Pitch black with a long-lasting brown head. Very complex aroma, hard to pick out the components, but there are liquorice, coffee, chocolate, dark berries and some peppery notes as well. Soft and creamy full mouthfeel. Very good balance with a light residual sugar sweetness and a firm bitterness. A great porter.

(Bottle) Pitch black colour with frothy, brown head. Roasted, fruity nose with chocolate, cocoa, danish dark rye bread, liquorice, soy sauce, teriyaki sauce and hints of nuts, possibly hazel nuts. Roasted, fruity taste with massive flavours of chocolate, liquorice, dried fruit, soy sauce (or rather the sweeter indonesian ketjap manis), sweet coffee and roasted nuts. Balanced cocoa bitterness in the finish. Medium to full body, rather sweet bot not overly so. A world class porter. Lovely stuff!
