| 4.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 10/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 26, 2007 Pitch-black body and a tan head. Roasted and fruity aroma, a bit like a Shiraz but also assertively malty like a strong imperial stout. Hints of vanilla, liqourice, chocolate. A spectacular taste, very complex yet perfectly in balance. Starts out soft with lots of chocolate and vanilla, then gets a lot more crisp and bitter with strong espresso and roasted malt, finishing bone-dry. Full-bodied. World-class porter. jcr (1184), Jasper, Indiana, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 24, 2007 Rich and full of flavor, this is a delicious porter that comes close to an imperial stout in body and aroma. Dark opaque brown pour with tan head. Chocolate, smoke and roasted malt and coffee fill the nose. Notes of molasses and vanilla. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and moderately bitter. Full body. Creamy texture, light carbonation. Slightly dry finish. Delicious. Eructoblaster (1508), Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
| 4.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Oct 24, 2007 Bottle - 500ml. Pours an opaque black body topped with a lasting brown foamy/creamy head. Awesome malty aroma with roasted coffee, dark chocolate and brown sugar hints. Alcohel is perfectly hidden. Taste is rich, complex and well balanced. Sweet and roasty flavors are strong without being too agressive. It ends with a long, warming, bitter roasty finish. This is one of the best beers I’ve ever had. Perfect example of a Baltic Porter. | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Oct 23, 2007 Pours pitch black and oily with a thin fully receding light brown head. Aroma of sweet roast, dark chocolate, licorice, pepper, and winey notes. Taste is sweet, chocolatey and oily like a liqeuer. Mouthfeel is full bodied with oily and vapourish quality and light and airy carbonation. A very well crafted baltic porter. NicerInPerson (337), North of Raleigh, North Carolina, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Oct 20, 2007 The aroma was deep dark chocolate with dark fruits, raisins and prunes, and a bit of roast and coffee thrown in for good measure. Malty with caramel most notable and a strong presence of chocolate. The beer poured into the glass clear black with barely a ruby highlight when held to the brightest lighte. The head was brown and luscious with a long lasting presence and lacing of the glass from first sip to last. The flavor was chocolate with caramel and a roasty nature. Espresso coffee was present and dark fruits, once again raisins and prunes. The flavor was chalky and dry in the final aftertaste with strong chocolate and roast flavors lasting long and strong. The body was medium-full and heading toward full with a moderate level of carbonation and a bit of a creamy texture on the palate. A nice beer, but a bit less smooth in the flavor than expected. 16.9 ounce bottle. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Oct 19, 2007 The beer pours as dark as they come, the chocolate brown creamy head piles high on the ebony body, the lace a thick blanket upon the glass. Oh what a nose, deep rich burnt grain aroma dominates, sweet with hints of bitter sweet chocolate, fresh and crisp, a true portent of what’s to come. Start has a masterful grain presence; sweet with a wonderful burnt bitterness at the back, top is rich and full. Finish carries on with the sweet and somewhat bitter aftertaste welding itself to the palate, the hops delectable in their spiciness, dry as a bone and a true example of the “Baltic Porter Style”! | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Oct 15, 2007 Bottle. Pours a thick black body that looks like it will carry no carbonation. It’s a trick though, and when the glass is about half full, an orangish head will start to grow and will reach about two fingers before all is said and done. Aromas are deep and diverse... prunes and dark fruit, vinous red wine notes, cocoa, and some woody/earthy tones. On the flavor side of the equation, the vinous notes are a bit distracting, so I’ll be interested in seeing how things shape up as the beer warms. Still, this is a mighty fine beer. | 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Oct 15, 2007 Nose was of rubbing alcohol and so was the first note on the old tastebuds. Getting past that was diffucult, but provided a nice chocolate, malty, espresso treat. Lots of gulps actually made me think I had cracked open the rum barrel aged capn lawrence I had already consumed. It was really potent and really strong liquor dominated.
