Commercial Description:
Editor’s note: Recent canned batches of this have been brewed at Bryggeriet S.C. Fuglsang and Harboe.
The first batch of this beer destined for export to the US market was brewed at Nøgne Ø in Grimstad, Norway in 2006. Later batches have been brewed at Ølfabrikken.
Introduced at ’Fynske Øldage’ 2005.

A dark and rich porter inspired by the Baltic porters traditionally made in Scandinavia. Roasted without being burned or bitter, with the flavor dominated by dried fruits and vinous notes. High amounts of residual sugars and a fruity aroma makes this beer the perfect companion for chocolate desserts, if served lightly chilled. Brewed on Maris Otter ale malt, British Brown Malt, chocolate malt, roasted barley, two types of caramel malt and brown sugar. Unpasteurized and unfiltered like all our beers of course.

Bottle from GBBF07. Dark brown/black colour with a decent head. Aroma has coffee & dark chocolate. Tastes as it smells with some liquorice notes in there as well. A very good Porter indeed.

Bottle. Very dark black body with a large creamy brown head. Lightly alcoholic aroma, with malted milk notes, moderate roast, very light ephemeral lactic undertone. Moderate roast dominates the flavour. Cocoa and mocha undertones throughout leaving a dark chocolate and coffee bitterness in the finish. Smooth creamy medium palate is pleasantly effervescent. (3+) Rich depth all around. The roasty character is not my personal cup of tea but I can still recognize that this is an exceptionally well crafted porter.

Some world-class work. Big head containing scent of rich chocolate. Quite fumey on the end of the nose. Flavor is heavy on the roasted elements. Mouthfeel on the acidic, biting, hard-liquory side. Burnt wood in the aftertaste.

bottles from Richlikebeer and Saarlander, thanks to both! this is a BLACK beer, thick and almost chewy. subtle notes of underlying fruit flavors along with some molasses and chocolate, but coffee dominated. roasty flavors without being sharp or bitter. very nice. glad I have a second bottle to cellar and try at a later date.

Aged 18 months: Impenetrable black. Rich tan head slowly disperses but retains a finely bubbled collar. Intense aromas of lactose, espresso, toffee, and chocolate-dipped raisins. Deeply roasty with hints of tar, cocoa, smoke, and chalky char. Mildly vinous. Tight carbonation; bottle conditioned. Delicate tingle of lactose and bristling char acidity forcefully penetrate the thickset cakey-malt core. Out of nowhere comes an onslaught of intensifying gripping char and lush smoke reminiscent of fudge cake and bitter espresso. Intensely rich, almost nauseatingly so. While the tacky residual sweetness is relatively sparse, it manages to bury some of the more poignant and crisp maltiness and lend a bit too much weight. That said, just enough acidity asserts itself to keep the sweetness from becoming detrimental to the polished and multilayered malt frame. Scorched malts lend an ultra snappy effect which mimics burnt cookies and chocolate-covered espresso beans. Finishes intensely bittersweet with chocolate truffles lightly drizzled with melted toffee and dusted with burnt cookies. Notes of campfire smoke and pungently earthy roast linger. Very beefy malt character, and more of an Imperial Stout than anything else. Intense as all get-out. Little could be done to improve this, but perhaps a more interesting yeast character and more fruitiness would help. Fine beer.

Fad. Cask conditioned. SUper lækker og meget drikbar porter. Absolut intet hoved på denne mørkebrune øl, med en let brændthed og ellers den lækre sødlige smag som portere nu engang skal have. Super.

12 oz bottle poured into a tulip glass was jet black with a tan head that turned quickly to lace. Wonderful aromas of coco and tons of roasted coffee fill your nose . Full rich mouth feel decent carbonation. The flavors are very complex. Sweetness of chocolate and coffee and a mash of other things, with a bitter dry finish Have had more than one of these and will continue to seek it out
