The aroma is very nice showing dark chocolate, anise, and roasted coffee. Then a second wave of dark fruits, and oaky vanilla add even more depth. The taste is ever more decadent showing dark chocolate, fudge, anise, and roasted coffee. Oaky vaniila and earthy hops come through and add bitterness and smoothness to the fold. Really great flavor for a porter. Full bodied and almost chewy yet incredibly smooth. The lengthy chocolate finish leaves you yearning for more. This is an excellent porter. | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 9, 2009 Thick black pour with a luscious dark mocha head. Tremendous roastiness on the nose. Roasted malts, bitter chocolate, coffee, and a tad bit of alcohol are detectable. Similar flavor - very rich with all those delicious roasty flavors that are typical of a porter. Chewy texture. Thick and heavy on the tongue, but simply flows down the throat. Very impressive. FlyingTaco (112), Massachusetts, USA

Nice, thick cinnamon sugar head topping deep licorice/espresso body. Quite opaque - head has some staying power and decent lacing. A little visible carbonation.
Full of flavor - could smell thick roasted chocolatey malt right after popping the cap. Huge malt presence with a little piney hops. Sweet connamon sugar tops a little alcohol burn. Good coffee character too.
Nice and smoky - there’s a little tinny tinge at first but the huge viscous malt is chewy as hell. Lots of charcoal in here - a lot of slate too but they both start to burn off with a little warmth. This is a little tight but good stuff.
The balance in this is very solid - alcohol, malt, sweet connamon sugar and molasses are all amped up to the hilt. Oily chewy tightness is complemented by slight carbonation tingle.
A very good one - probably the best in the style I’ve come across. A very oily, chewy, enjoyable sipper.

| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Jul 8, 2009 Bottle. Pours black with a nice dense and creamy cappuccino coloured head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted malt, toffee, dried fruit, molasses sugar and coffee. Oily and smooth texture. Super rich flavour of dark chocolate, dark fruit, lactose, coffee, caramel and sugar. It’s sad this beer isn’t available in this bottled standard anymore. The canned version just ain’t the same.. Pawola22 (781), Kansas City, Missouri, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jul 4, 2009 Bottle. Pours a black body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves some clinging, pretty lace. Aroma is sweet roasts and chocolate. Caramels, fruitcake, and a light licorice and hop bitterness. Flavor has a much bolder roast, but is still big on the sweet chocolate not allowing the roasts to become too big. A bit of charred smoke, plenty of caramels, some coffee, vanilla, wood, darker fruitcake, and a very nice, soft and drying bitterness. Full bodied and very smooth with a long lingering, sweet and rich malty chocolate and roasty aftertaste. Overall, a really nice porter. Bold, but sweet and rich. Plenty of roasts, but plenty of sweet malts not allowing one flavor to dominate. Very enjoyable. yumyum (124), barrie, Ontario, Canada

Roastiness of the malts is very nice and is evident on the nose a in the taste. Nice sweetnss to it and perhaps a subtle fruitiness to it. Vanilla also noticeable in the taste. Good brew
