alexanderj (2213), Chino Hills, California, USA Jan 27, 2007 Reddish amber color, don’t remember what the head looked like. Aroma of fruit and malt. Flavor was much of the same, but struck me as quite weird, especially for the style. Also, floral and sweet. Didn’t enjoy much at all. Ungstrup (14754), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 20, 2006 A hazy red beer with a lazing beige head - doesn’t really look like the Biere de Garde’s I’ve had from France. The aroma is sweet with light notes of berries - it is served very cold, so not that much aroma appears. The flavor is sweet with primary notes of berries, but also a light note of butterscotch, leading to a bitter end with notes of berries. The mouthfeel is a bit sticky. Amber color, dark mahogany with nice head and lacing. Nose of musky, husky malt. A touch of the tart barny character and a lot of caramel malt. The finish dolemike1 (1116), Jeannette, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 24, 2006 Ehh... biere de Garde? Clear and brown, with an off white head, malty (caramel) and lightly fruity aromas and flavor. Odd take on the style. Not a bad beer, just not expected. mj (4973), Colorado, USA Jul 22, 2006 Very pale aroma, hard to notice at all, but still has some faint tobacco and black cherry scents, just pretty light. Flavor is similar, with a moderately strong lactic off-flavor. Ok, but not what a biere de garde should be. TheBeerGod (3143), Newport News, Virginia, USA Jul 1, 2006 Draft at Wharf Rat on Pratt. I must start by saying, this ain’t no BdG. Brown bodied with a small tan head. Nose is flowery, fruity and slightly roasty. Taste is fruity and floral with semi-sweet malts and light caramel. Body is light-medium with mild carbonation. Finishes with more fruit, caramel, sweet malts, and light flowery flavors. hopscotch (5440), Vero Beach, Florida, USA May 28, 2006 Nitro... Clear, deep copper ale with a small, creamy, beige head. Terrific retention. Chocolate and toffee nose. Did they give me the wrong beer? Well-balanced flavor with good bitterness. Lightly chocolatey with notes of coffee, very mild spice and a rumor of wood. Nice, but a Biere de Garde? Medium-bodied and creamy with feather-soft carbonation. Chocolatey, delicate finish. Not bad for a brown ale, but a Biere de Garde? I had my server pour me another to be sure. It’s a Biere de Garde, I guess. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA May 14, 2006 (Draught, The Wharf Rat) Pours an amber-brown body with a moderate creamy beige head. Aroma of toasted and sweet malts. Flavor of toasted malt, mild hops, and fruitiness with a somewhat bitter finish. Ehglish bitter spin on a biere de garde.
